Ram’s light-duty pickup is recognized as one of the bests of its kind. It is strong in all fields and one of the reasons is the fact that there are so many different versions on offer. Rebel is one of them – an off-road-oriented model, which doesn’t necessarily cost a fortune like most trucks of this type cost. Instead, it is built over one of the more basic trim levels and keeps costs at a reasonable level. For the next year, the 2023 RAM 1500 Rebel continues pretty much in the same way, with familiar upgrades over standard versions.
That means that you may count on a pickup that has a log of great things to offset, at a pretty reasonable price. Of course, we particularly like its off-road upgrades, which are numerous. Also, there are few exclusive exterior details, which accentuate the model’s off-road performance. Two engine options are available, with six or eight cylinders and both move this pickup pretty well.
2023 RAM 1500 Rebel Design
As we already mentioned, the 2023 RAM 1500 Rebel continues in the same way, with a familiar design and features. As we already mentioned, it is based on more basic variants of the pickup. More precisely, most features are the same as in the Big Horn model, though there are some upgrades as well. The first thing you’ll notice are exclusive styling details, such as unique wheels, skid plates and a more aggressive front-end design.
Still, mechanical upgrades are far more important. There is a lot of off-road hardware, starting from an upgraded suspension with raised ground clearance. Furthermore, you may count on all-terrain tires (including the full-size spare wheel), skid plates, hill-descent control, electronically-locking rear differential, tow hooks, Class IV trailer-towing receiver hitch etc. Additionally, you can opt for the adjustable suspension.
Interior
On the inside, things are typical for a Ram 1500. The cabin looks nice and well-built, with nice materials and pleasant aesthetics. In this case, you may count on front bucket seats, as well as on goodies like a power-sliding rear window, cloth and vinyl upholstery, power-adjustable driver’s seat, rubber floor mats, storage under the rear floor etc.
Most features are the same as in the Big Horn trim, starting from power windows, power door locks, heated and power rear mirrors, remote keyless entry, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, air conditioning, Bluetooth, leather-wrapped steering wheels, power-adjustable driver’s seat, forward collision mitigation and more.
Also, there are available Level 1 and Level 2 packages that allow you to get upgrades like a remote start, a 115-volt power outlet, front and rear parking sensors, power-adjustable pedals, and passive hands-free entry. Furthermore, you can opt for a bigger fuel tank as well as for the Safety and Convenience Package, which includes safety features like adaptive cruise, automatic high-beam headlights, and lane-keeping assist.
2023 RAM 1500 Rebel Engines
The 2023 RAM 1500 Rebel continues with two familiar engines and three powertrain configurations on offer. Base models are equipped with a good-old 3.6-liter V6 engine, which puts out a max output of around 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. Also, the engine comes coupled with a mild-hybrid system that includes a 12-hp electric motor and a 0.4-kWh battery pack, but the combined output remains the same.
There is also a well-known 5.7-liter Hemi V8, which features a max output of 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. This engine is also available with the aforementioned mild-hybrid system but you can also get a version without it. In both cases, the overall power and torque remain the same.
All versions come with a smooth-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission, which works great. Base versions feature rear-wheel drive, while a four-wheel-drive system is available.
When it comes to fuel economy, the V6 returns around 20 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. On the other hand, models with the V8 and 4WD are good for about 15 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway.
