2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS facelift

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS will represent the fourth production year of the current generation, so it’s no wonder that we can find a lot of reports that suggest a facelift. However, the officials are still quiet, so we presume that the mid-cycle update won’t happen so soon, especially if we consider that no test mule has been spotted on the road. The company is currently busy updating the GLE model, so we are pretty sure that the next year won’t bring anything significant to the full-size department.

All in all, you may count on a familiar design, which has a lot of fantastic things to offer. We like the wide engine offer, as well as the butter-smooth ride quality. Furthermore, there is plenty of space on the inside, while the interior quality is exceptional.

As there are no significant changes to come, we presume that the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS will arrive sometime in the last quarter of the year.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS Design

As we’ve just mentioned, the current generation has been around since 2020 and that’s why believe there is no room for bigger updates at the moment. Simply, the current model is already impressive in pretty much every aspect, starting from the ride quality. As you may presume, this SUV is all about comfort. The ride is super-smooth but at the same time, the GLS offers a quite sporty handling and almost no body lean.

Visually, the flagship SUV follows the brand’s design language and comes without radical styling solutions. Its design is rather classic, which is pretty much a guarantee that the car will remain good-looking for a long time. The next year’s model shouldn’t bring any particular change, though there is always room for minor updates, such as new color options and similar things.

Interior

This has always been the GLS’s strongest point. Simply, this is a super-luxury SUV, which offers exceptional build quality. High-end materials in a combination with impressive attention to detail make this cabin look amazing. Still, not everyone loves the aesthetics of the dashboard. The infotainment system and flashy color combination look overwhelming to some who would rather like to see something more classic in a vehicle like this.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS Interior

On the other hand, there is no doubt that the level of comfort is at an impressive level. Thanks to the excellent suspension setup, as well as to massive and plush seats, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS will remain a perfect choice for long journeys. The front seats are massive and supportive, while the second row also accommodates adults with ease. Even the third row is comfortable and adult-friendly.

The cargo area offers up to 17.4 cubic feet of space behind the third row, up to 48.7 cubic feet behind the second and nearly 85 cubic feet of the total cargo volume. While that’s plenty of space, it’s still way behind class leaders, such as Lincoln Navigator, Cadillac Escalade etc.

Features

Yearly updates usually bring a couple of novelties to the list of standard and available equipment, so we may see something new in the  2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS as well. Still, we presume that most of the things are about to remain the same. So, all models should come standard with goodies like quad-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, a 12.3-inch touch screen, a touchpad controller, navigation, voice command, a 13-speaker Burmester stereo, Bluetooth, nine USB ports, satellite radio, HD Radio, wireless device charging, an in-car communication system, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The list of options should include goodies like five-zone climate control, MBUX interior assistant, a 7-inch MBUX tablet for the second row, a 27-speaker Burmester audio system, second-row wireless device charging, and a Wi-Fi hot spot.

When it comes to safety, all models should come standard with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, surround-view camera, park assist, crosswind assist, vehicle exit warning and more.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS Engines

The engine lineup should remain the same as well. So, base models should carry on with a 3.0-liter inline-six, which puts out around 362 horsepower. For those who prefer something more capable, there is the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, which comes in three different output variants. The GLS 580 features a max output of 483 horsepower and it is the best choice in our humble opinion. Also, you can get the AMG version, with a max output of 603 horsepower, while the Maybach version comes with a max output of 550 horsepower.

All engines come in pair nine-speed automatic transmission, as well as with the EQ Boost mild-hybrid system.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS Release Date and Price

Since bigger changes probably won’t happen, we presume that the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year. The base price should go around 78.000 dollars, while models like BMW X7, Lincoln Navigator and Cadillac Escalade will remain key competitors.
