We could say that the German luxury carmaker has started the electrification process on time and as a result, there is already a pretty decent lineup of all-electric vehicles. Among them, you can also find a model called the EQA. This is a subcompact electric crossover, designed as an electric counterpart of the GLA model. It features a similar size but a completely different nature. It debuted last year, so the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQA will represent the second production year. However, that doesn’t mean that we won’t be seeing some changes.
Apparently, the company is preparing some slightly visual updates. More importantly, the latest reports suggest the model’s arrival in North America. That model will also bring some interesting upgrades, including more powerful electric motors and even a bigger battery.
In any case, we expect that the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQA will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.
2023 Mercedes-Benz EQA Design
Design-wise, it looks like the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQA is about to get an update, even though it’s been around for just one year. From what we can see, the test mule wears a bit of camouflage at the front. This indicates certain updates in terms of the grille design, front fascia etc.
However, the overall layout will certainly remain the same, starting from the mechanics. This model rides on the company’s MFA2 platform and, interestingly, a lot of parts are shared with the GLA Class, even though we are talking about completely different design philosophies. The two models may feature completely different powertrains, but the overall shape is quite similar, as well as the size. Moreover, the EQA is also an FWD-biased car, so the ride quality is pretty similar as well.
Of course, the main difference is the front-end styling, which follows the EQ’s design language and which will get slight updates for the next year, as we already mentioned.
Interior
When it comes to interior design, German engineers won’t touch anything. We will see the same design, which looks very nice. Of course, the first thing you’ll notice is a lot of similarities with the GLA, whether it’s about those integrated screens or round vents. All in all, the cabin features great overall quality, with nice materials and a lot of attention to detail.
The high-tech-looking interior is something we really like. Another thing we really appreciate is a pretty generous amount of passenger space. The front seats are well-shaped and very comfortable, even for taller passengers. Also, the driving position is very good, both in terms of ergonomics and outward visibility. The second row is also pretty generous with space and can accommodate a couple of adults with ease.
2023 Mercedes-Benz EQA Drivetrain
When it comes to the powertrain setup, base models will continue with a single electric motor mounted at the front, which puts out around 190 horsepower. That’s plenty enough for a decent performance. Most drivers should be satisfied with this base powertrain but keep in mind that the German manufacturer also offers a dual-electric-motor setup, which offers a total output of 280 horsepower and all-wheel drive. Obviously, driving dynamics are way better. Some sources suggest that the North American version could come with even more power. The officials are still quiet on this matter.
When it comes to the battery pack, base models feature around 66 kWh in capacity, which is enough for around 300 miles of range. Rumors suggest a bigger battery for the U.S. market, which would provide greater autonomy.
2023 Mercedes-Benz EQA Release Date
The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQA should arrive sometime in the last quarter of the year, at least when it comes to markets where it’s already present, such as Europe and Australia. On the other hand, unofficial reports suggest its arrival in North America in the next year.
