One of the best proofs that we are living in the new era of the automotive industry is the new Hummer. Instead of burning tons of gas, the new model runs on electric power. Also, it comes under the GMC brand but that shouldn’t bother purists, as the rest of the vehicle faithfully resembles the previous generations of this legend. Therefore, it’s no wonder that, after the recent premiere of the pickup, we are also about to see an SUV version, which will come as the 2023 GMC Hummer SUV.
At this point, we know most of the details about the 2023 GMC Hummer SUV. We know it will feature the same design language as the pickup, but also a shorter wheelbase and, therefore, a slightly smaller battery capacity. Furthermore, it will feature less power, though that doesn’t mean it won’t be very capable.
2023 GMC Hummer SUV Design
Design-wise, the 2023 GMC Hummer SUV won’t bring any surprises. Most of the parts will be shared with the pickup version, starting from the styling. The new SUV will closely resemble the previous generations of the Hummer SUV, with the familiar boxy shape, very similar grille and other parts that have always been a trademark of this model.
Still, count on some differences compared to the pickup version. This particularly refers to the wheelbase, which will be nearly 9 inches shorter. Among other things, this will also impact on the battery, which will feature a slightly smaller capacity compared to the one that’s installed in the pickup.
In a typical SUV fashion, the spare tire is mounted on the back, while you may also count on things like side steps and floor liners, as well as on massive 22-inch wheels. Furthermore, buyers will have a choice of an off-road package, which will include tons of upgrades. Some of the highlights will be goodies like 18-inch wheels wrapped in 35-inch mud-terrain tires, skid plates, rock sliders, a front electronically locking differential, rear motors that can electronically mimic a locked diff, heavy duty half-shafts, and underbody cameras.
Interior
On the inside, you can easily notice that most of the cabin is shared with the pickup version. This particularly refers to the dashboard design, which looks pretty much the same. It combines simplistic and futuristic elements with massive screens and other tech goodies. All this looks pretty good, while you can also notice familiar details like moon footsteps and Sea of Tranquility, which pay tribute to GM’s participation in Apollo missions.
Since the wheelbase is 8.9 inches shorter compared to the pickup version, there will be no room for the third row of seats. The 2023 GMC Hummer SUV will accommodate up to five passengers. Also, it will come with removable roof panels, just like the pickup version.
Naturally, we also count on a full load of features, starting from a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 13.4-inch infotainment screen. Lots of other tech features should be on the list of standard features as well, starting from goodies like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless charging, GM OnStar telematics system and more.
2023 GMC Hummer SUV Powertrain and Battery
Just like in the pickup version, Edition 1 will be the first and the most capable variant of the 2023 GMC Hummer SUV. However, it will feature 170 horsepower less than the pickup. It will be good for 830 horsepower but that doesn’t mean that the new SUV won’t be fast. The company promises 0-60 time in just 3.5 seconds. Details about the battery are still unknown but we know it will be smaller compared to the pickup version, due to the shorter wheelbase. We expect that the max range will go around 300 miles.
Less capable versions will feature a max output of 625 horsepower, with the max range of 250 or 300 miles, depending on the version you pick. While the battery capacity is still unknown, we know that the new SUV will have an 800-volt fast-charging capability.
2023 GMC Hummer SUV Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2023 GMC Hummer SUV will hit the market later this year. The Edition 1 will cost around 106.000 dollars, while the base version, which will come in 2023, will cost around $80.000. Key competitors will be models like Rivian R1S, Bollinger B1, Tesla Model X etc.
