The current generation of Chevy’s heavy-duty lineup has been around for a while and it looks like it’s time for some updates. More precisely, it looks like the 2023 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Diesel is about to receive a mid-cycle update. At this point, the test mule is still on the road with camouflage, but we expect that it will be ready to hit the market sometime in the second half of the year.

We believe that this is going to be a pretty comprehensive update. Of course, the camo clearly indicates some styling changes, but we also count on big updates on the inside. Furthermore, several sources suggest that the 2023 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Diesel is about to get a comprehensive update under the hood.

Despite the styling and interior updates, the biggest novelty for the next year will probably be the powertrain upgrade. From what we know so far, the current 6.6-liter Duramax V8 turbodiesel is about to get a significant power and torque upgrade. The latest reports suggest a max output of 500+ horsepower and 1.085 pound-feet of torque. For comparison, the current version of the engine is good for about 450 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque. Of course, this significant upgrade should bring big improvement regarding towing capacity and overall performance.

On the other hand, none of these reports suggest changes for the gasoline version. This model should continue in the same way, with a 6.6-liter V8 that puts out around 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. Both engines come in pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

As we already mentioned, this will be a pretty comprehensive update and as we are talking about a mid-cycle refresh, it’s logical to see styling updates. The test mule wears a lot of camouflage, so we do expect a lot from this aspect. Of course, most of the cover is at the front, where we expect to see novelties in areas like the grille, bumper etc. All these updates should make this truck look more aggressive and more prominent. The rear end could come with some tweaks as well, while we also expect to see things like new color options, new wheels, new appearance packages and similar things.

On the other hand, we probably won’t be seeing bigger mechanical changes. Still, some rumors suggest certain tweaks to the suspension setup, which would improve towing capacity and performance in general. Also, many believe that the Z71 could become a separate trim level, which would compete with the Power Wagon and similar models. If this happens, we presume we would see a few more upgrades, besides the current features like upgraded suspension, skid plates etc. The officials are still quiet on this matter.

Interior

The last redesign was a big disappointment in terms of the interior design. Most of the cabin design was carried from the previous generation, which made this truck a little bit less appealing than rivals like Ram 2500, despite the fact that this is primarily a work machine. Therefore, we expect a lot from this update. The dashboard still wears a camouflage but we expect it will feature the same or very similar shape to the recently updated 1500 Light Duty model. This would mean new aesthetics, much finer materials and better overall quality.

This interior change would also mean improvements regarding ergonomics. For example, the gear shifter would be moved from the steering column to the center console, the place where it should be. Furthermore, we count on a lot of new tech features, starting from a new infotainment screen with the updated software, digital instrument cluster and similar things.

Trim Levels

We expect that the trim level organization will remain the same or very similar to the current model. Therefore, the offer should start with the WT (Work Truck) trim, which is a pretty basic version of the truck, with essential features only. The Custom trim adds a couple of convenience features and makes this truck a nicer work machine. LT and LTZ are mid-range options, which offer a good balance between price and standard equipment. Finally, the High Country should remain the range-topping model, equipped with lots of standard equipment and also full of exclusive styling details.

As we already mentioned, Chevy could also make Z71 a separate trim level. Currently available as an off-road package, this badge brings upgrades like skid plates, upgraded off-road suspension hill descent control etc. We presume that the new trim level would bring a few more things, such as a two-speed transfer case, locking differential and similar things.

2023 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Diesel Release Date and Price

We expect to see 2023 Chevy Silverado 2500HD sometime in the second half of the year, with a starting price of around 50.000 dollars. Models like F-250 and Ram 2500 will remain key competitors.
