If you expected to hear that 2022 Toyota Tundra Diesel is on the way, that is not the case. The company has spoken about this upgrade and wrote off chances of this happening in the next couple of seasons. Instead, we learn that I-Force Max is a new unit for big rigs in the Toyota family. Tundra truck is the first model to use it, and it replaces a 5.7-l V8, old and sturdy powerplant. So, we can also expect it in Land Cruiser, and luxury Lexus LX600 SUV.

Besides the new engine, the fresh styling will also draw attention. The 2022 Toyota Tundra redesign will start the evolution in the lineup, so we cannot predict precisely what to expect. It is not possible to compare it to any of the latest facelifts since the new language is going to take place on the Tundra.

At the same time, the Japanese carmaker is going to update the TRD Pro package. With these off-road upgrades, Tundra was one of the rare models that could be compared to Ford F-150 Raptor. It still lacked power, but capabilities in the toughest conditions were unbelievable. It is the most exciting, but not the only interesting trim level for the half-ton pickup.

2022 Toyota Tundra Redesign

The styling of the current truck is old, like the engine. Toyota is well-known for its futuristic approach in other segments, so it is a surprise why the company left the big rig waiting for so long for the redesign. The same is with Sequoia and Land Cruiser SUVs, whose models are more than 10 years old. Revisits of the interior are refreshing vehicles, but fans expect a lot more.

A complete overhaul is much needed and the new generation is going to bring it. The front fascia will suffer the most changes, while the overall size should be the same. Improvements at the back should include more tailgate options and bedliner at higher trim levels. Large wheels and arches will be muscular.

Interior

The cabin of the truck was recently updated. However, the new 2022 Toyota Tundra will introduce more features and a fresh layout. Android Auto was added last season and Apple CarPlay a year ago. Now, it is time for the new generation of the Entune infotainment system. Don’t worry, Toyota is not going to remove the two most popular smartphone integration services.

A larger multimedia screen is going to offer simpler controls. Premium audio will come optionally, or if you purchase some of the high-end trim levels. Cloth seats are standard, and the material switch to leather is also possible. Two- and four-door cabins will be available, as well as short and long box.

We still don’t have too many details about the upcoming drivetrain. Toyota filed for the trademark and experts didn’t waste time to find out the I-Force Max is a code for the new engine. It is not a secret that a 5.7-liter V8 is out of date. Still, capability and durability are keeping it alive. But, the time for changes is here and the new unit will probably be a twin-turbo V6.

Besides the 2022 Toyota Tundra, Lexus LX full-size premium SUV will use this powerplant. Another trademark in a process of registration is LX600. Now, the LX570 indicates the displacement. So, the number 600 is a mystery. If the I-Force Max is the new engine for big rigs, it cannot be a 6.0-liter mill. Another speculation is that number indicates the amount of horsepower. Well, it is also hard to believe, since the Tundra would become the most powerful truck in the market, at least until the debut of Ram 150 TRX Rebel with the Hellcat drivetrain and 700+ hp.

No Diesel For Toyota Trucks

Not only 2022 Toyota Tundra, but also Tacoma are unlikely to bring a diesel unit any time soon. The Japanese company is going green, so we will rather see a hybrid coming from their factories. This could be a bad move since all the American rivals are already in the market with 3.0-liter displacements and torque above 440 lb-ft. Of course, there are improvements in towing capacity and fuel economy at the same time. The downside is the emission rating since diesel engines will soon go to history.

When you need to haul off the road, there are only a few trucks that will offer special equipment. F-150 Raptor is definitely the best-known model in the market. But, the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro will get even closer to the 4×4 truck. Fox shocks will definitely be back since this company is delivering a perfect configuration for Toyota and its products. A unique suspension and body upgrades will make Tundra tougher and capable of responding to off-road towing. Unfortunately, we won’t see the combination of TRD Pro and a diesel engine.

2022 Toyota Tundra Release Date

The new truck will be introduced in 2021. A delay is possible if the market doesn’t recover from a blow caused by coronavirus. Still, the company is working on the 2022 Toyota Tundra, and the debut could be postponed by a few months.
