2022 Nissan Pathfinder Redesign: Changes, Features, Specs
The generation of Nissan’s mid-size SUV is here and it comes after a complete overhaul. The 2022 Nissan Pathfinder redesign brings lots of novelties and we have no doubt it will be a much better vehicle than its predecessor. It brings a completely new, much more appealing look, along with a significantly upgraded interior, which looks way more upscale than before. The new model will come to all dealerships in the U.S. in the next weeks.
Although we are talking about a new generation, some of the design solutions carried from the previous model. This particularly refers to the platform, as well as to the engine. However, a big change came in the form of the new 9-speed automatic transmission, which is a big improvement over the previous CVT unit. This doesn’t refer to the ride quality only, as the towing capacity as been improved as well.
2022 Nissan Pathfinder Design
The new generation brings a lot of new things, even though some base design characteristics carried from the previous generation. The latter particularly refers to architecture. We are talking about the same D Platform, the one that still underprints loads of Nissan mid-size vehicles, even though it’s been around for years. Of course, it’s been significantly updated in this case. The new model rides better and feels more upscale. Interestingly, the new model features 114.2 inches in wheelbase, just like the previous generation. It is taller and wider, but also slightly shorter.
On the other hand, the styling is completely new. The 2022 Nissan Pathfinder redesign has brought a look that utilizes the brand’s latest design language. The front end takes a lot of inspiration from the full-size Armada, with similarly-designed headlights and a new iteration of the famous V-Motion grille. We particularly like the rear end, which looks far more upscale than before.
Even though the exterior styling is completely new and looks amazing, we are even more impressed with the new interior design. Simply, the previous generation looked outdated from the inside, while the build quality wasn’t particularly impressive. The new 2022 Nissan Pathfinder interior is quite the opposite. The dashboard looks impressive, as most of it is trimmed with soft-touch materials. The design is also pretty upscale, highlighted by things like a massive tablet-like touchscreen and digital instrument cluster. We particularly like the new center console, with keeps a lot of physical controls, while there is also a new gear shifter that looks really upscale.
As we’ve just mentioned, the new generation features a pretty similar size as its predecessor. Therefore, the amount of passenger room is similar too. Once again, the first row is very generous with space. Traditionally, Nissan makes some of the best seats in the business, so front passengers can enjoy really comfortable ride. The second row is as spacious and as comfortable. On the other hand, the third row is tighter but still offers enough space to accommodate adults on shorter trips.
All models of the new Pathfinder come standard with smartphone integration. Furthermore, base versions use an 8.0-inch touchscreen, while higher trim levels offer a bigger 9.0-inch unit, along with features like Wi-Fi hotspot, a wireless smartphone charging pad, SiriusXM satellite radio, a head-up display, in-dash navigation system, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster etc.
Of course, you may also count on a lot of safety features and driver aids. All models should come standard with things like a rearview camera, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection etc. Things like adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous driving should be offered as options.
2022 Nissan Pathfinder Engine
As we already mentioned, the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder continues with the same engine as the previous generation. We are talking about a good-old 3.5-liter V6, which puts out around 284 horsepower. On the other hand, the new 9-speed automatic transmission is a big change compared to the CVT gearbox found in the previous model. It promises much better ride quality, as well as overall performance.
The new model needs around 6.7 seconds to hit 60 mph, which is quite typical for the class. The new transmission has brought improvements in terms of utility, so the new model can tow 6.000 pounds – one thousand more than before. Details about fuel economy are yet to come.
