The segment of subcompact crossovers is very competitive these days and among numerous models in the class, the CX-30 stands out in many ways. It’s been around for just a couple of years but it already established itself as one of the best models in the class. It is still pretty fresh and has a lot of great things to offer, so we are pretty sure that the 2022 Mazda CX-30 will carry on without more important changes.
That means you may count on familiar design characteristics. This crossover looks great and comes with one of the nicest cabins in the class. Furthermore, we like its sporty handling and precise steering, as well as a long list of standard tech and safety features. When it comes to drawbacks, the cargo area and rear seats would use more space, while transmission feels a little bit old.
Considering that bigger novelties probably won’t come, we presume that the 2022 Mazda CX-30 will hit the market sometime late in the year.
2022 Mazda CX-30 Design
The CX-30 was introduced in 2019, for the 2020 model. It came as a crossover version of the redesigned Mazda 3 and the two models share a lot of things. The mechanical aspect is nearly identical, except for a few suspension tweaks. Just like the hatchback sibling, this crossover features a solid rear axle, but don’t be fooled with such information – the ride quality is great, especially if you prefer sporty ride and direct handling.
Things are very similar in terms of aesthetics as well. That’s definitely a big plus, considering that we are talking about one of the best-looking models in the class. We are pretty sure that the 2022 Mazda CX-30 won’t bring any bigger novelties in terms of aesthetics, though things like new color options are always possible.
The 2022 Mazda CX-30 will represent the third production year and therefore, we have no doubt that there won’t be any bigger interior changes. We expect to see the same cabin design, which looks amazing. The materials are great, while the simplistic dashboard makes this crossover extremely elegant. Furthermore, there is a long list of standard and available equipment, and all these things make this Mazda look as luxurious as many premium-badged subcompact crossovers.
When it comes to interior space, the front row is very generous and offers plenty of comfort. We also like the driving position very much. On the other hand, the second row is typical tight for the class, so taller passengers probably won’t be able to enjoy longer journeys. The cargo area offers around 20 cubic feet behind the second row and 45 cubic feet in total, which is okay but not great for the segment.
We might see a few novelties in terms of standard and available equipment but we are also pretty sure that most of the things are about to remain the same. Therefore, all models should come standard with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster display, an 8.8-inch infotainment display, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hot spot, HD Radio, voice recognition, an eight-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, and two USB ports. The current model offers upgrades like navigation, wireless device charging, a 12-speaker Bose premium stereo, satellite radio, a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror, a universal garage door opener, LED interior lighting, dual-zone automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry etc.
We could expect the same thing in terms of safety features. The current model comes standard with goodies like forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, low-speed automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlights, driver attention monitoring, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a rearview camera. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, a head-up display, adaptive headlights, reverse automatic emergency braking, traffic jam assist, a surround-view parking camera system, and traffic sign recognition are optional.
2022 Mazda CX-30 Engines
Things under the hood definitely won’t change. Base models will continue with a 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated engine that puts out around 186 horsepower. That’s enough power for a daily drive and we are pretty sure that most drivers will be satisfied with it. It comes in pair with a 6-speed automatic transmission and offers quite good fuel economy that goes around 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.
Also, there is an optional 2.5-liter turbo-four, which puts out 227 horsepower on regular fuel. If you use premium gasoline, the max output goes up to 250 horses. As you may presume, driving dynamics are notably better with this one.
2022 Mazda CX-30 Release Date and Price
We expect to see the 2022 Mazda CX-30 by the end of this year, with a starting price of around 23.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like Toyota C-HR, Honda HR-V, Hyundai Kona, Subaru Crosstrek etc.
