The 2022 Lincoln Aviator threatens to become the flagship model. The PHEV configuration made it more powerful than Navigator. Still, the full-size luxury SUV survived all the crises and rough times. With the new generation of the previously-known MKT model arriving in 2019, the carmaker also changed the name. The old MK- nomenclature was dropped and all Lincoln SUVs are now more recognizable. Shortly after the debut, the mid-size Aviator made a huge step by delivering a mighty plug-in hybrid. It will make fans and enthusiasts happy for some while. The company needs time for other projects, and one of them is the Mark E all-electric SUV.

The new SUV might bring an updated infotainment system called Sync 4. Well, this is not confirmed yet, but with a lack of changes in trim levels and under the hood, the update of existing packages and technology is the best solution. Of course, the 2022 Lincoln Aviator colors will be under the revisit, with a couple of fresh paintjobs joining the lineup. Definitely, the highlights of the lineup are the Grand Touring PHEV configuration and the Black Label model. At the high end, you can combine these two. However, be prepared to pay a hefty price.

2022 Lincoln Aviator Specs, Grand Touring Hybrid

There are two available configurations for the premium SUV. The mid-size model counts on 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque from a 3.0-liter V6 engine. It is backed up with a similar twin-turbo system we find on the larger Navigator. However, the smaller displacement is not going to offer more ponies than the 3.5-liter unit. A ten-speed automatic transmission is the highlight of the drive system. It makes a ride smooth and efficient. The gas mileage is above 20 mpg combined, no matter what drive you pick. All-wheel drive delivers a better traction and balance.

The 2022 Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring is using the same powertrain and attaches it to the plug-in hybrid system. After the enhancement, the SUV is going to burst 494 hp, and almost unbelievable amount of twist power – 630 pound-feet! The gas mileage is at 23 mpg combined, or converted to the PHEV numbers – 56 MPGe. The SUV can also run using only the electric motors. You won’t cover a huge distance, but 21 miles is a good result for such a big model.

2022 Lincoln Aviator Packages

Standard trim level for the 2022 Lincoln Aviator includes a conventional V6 engine with 400 hp. The company is not saving features for the base package, which is highlighted with a 10-inch display at the central console. A seven-seater comes with a bench in the middle row, which is one of the rare downsides. Still, higher trims will fix this pretty easily. LED daytime running lights are standard. The safety features the Co-Pilot360 bundle.

Reserve is the mid-range option with significant upgrades. The Quad-Zone climate replaces the tri-sector control. Larger wheels and panoramic sunroof make this model stand out. Inside, the leather upholstery and Revel audio are some of the coolest additions. We already mentioned the plug-in hybrid system for the 2022 Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring SUV. Plus, the entire drive configuration is boosted with different upgrades to make a ride more impressive, and what is also very important – safe.

2022 Lincoln Aviator Black Label

This is a high-end version recognizable for all Lincoln vehicles. The Black Label is making the luxury SUV even more luxurious. If you think it is impossible to offer better features than for the Reserve and Grand Touring models, wait to hear the 2022 Lincoln Aviator Black Label is using 28-speaker audio delivered by Revel. It is called Ultima 3D and fans of premium sound will know what it brings. The Co-Pilot360 Plus is adding top of the line safety options. Still, the biggest highlight of the trim level is the thematic interior. For the Aviator, the company is offering Chalet, Destination, and Flight patterns. Each will use specific materials and colors. The ultimate upgrade is the plug-in hybrid drivetrain. The combo of Grand Touring and Black Label packages will leave most of the competition in the dust.

The premium mid-size SUV costs $20,000 above its non-luxurious sibling, Ford Explorer. The MSRP starts just north of $51,000, without the destination fee. You need to pay $7,000 to get the Reserve trim level. Well, our recommendation is to do so, since it brings a more significant upgrade. All-wheel drive is optional for $2,500. Black Label will cost you at least $80,000, while the Grand Touring version and PHEV add $10k above that. With a few upgrades, the 2022 Lincoln Aviator might get very close to $100,000. It is more than Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk with 707 horsepower. Still, there are German carmakers sitting above the Lincoln with their offer. BMW X5 M and Mercedes AMG GLE 63 will be more expensive than the US vehicle.
