The new Land Cruiser is on the way but its smaller version, Prado, is about to remain in the current form for some more time. This means that its more luxurious North American sibling is about to continue in the same way as well. Despite it’s been around since 2009, the current generation of this luxury off-roader won’t get redesigned for a little bit more time. So, you may count on the 2022 Lexus GX 460 with familiar design characteristics, which hasn’t changed for years.

All in all, you may count on a design that offers excellent off-road performances and world-class reliability. This SUV also offers a luxurious cabin and a long list of standard equipment, particularly safety features. On the other hand, its cabin design definitely shows signs of aging, while the poor fuel economy is also a big drawback.

As there are no bigger changes to come, we presume that the 2022 Lexus GX 460 release date will be scheduled for the end of the year.

2022 Lexus GX 460 Design

The 2022 Lexus GX 460 is about to continue in the same way, without any notable change. The current generation has been around since 2009 but it received a couple of updates meanwhile. The second update was two years ago when this SUV received a new front end, which a more angular spindle grille, new headlights, bumpers etc. That form is still active and we have no doubt the next year’s model will continue in the same way.

The main reason why we love this old SUV is its off-road performance. Besides high ground clearance and standard four-wheel drive, this model offers lots of off-road hardware. Some of the highlights are goodies like a transmission cooler, crawl control, and a Multi-Terrain Monitor. Furthermore, it offset different traction modes, for surfaces like rock, mud and sand.

Interior

Interior changes won’t happen either, so you may count on a familiar layout, which looks a little bit outdated in our years. Without any doubt, the materials and build quality are excellent, but the dashboard design and general interior aesthetics belong to the previous generation of the automotive industry. Still, if you like classic dashboard design, you probably won’t mind this.

The 2022 Lexus GX 460 interior will continue with the same seating configuration, which means that you may count on the base version that seats up to seven passengers, while the second-row captain chairs will be offered as an option. The first two rows offer plenty of leg and headroom and accommodate adults pretty comfortably. On the other side, the third row is tight and best to be left for kids.

When it comes to the cargo area, you may count on about 11.6 cubic feet of cargo space with the third row up, 46.7 cubic feet with the third row folded, and 64.7 cubic feet in total. That’s below-average for the segment.

Features

This aspect shouldn’t bring bigger changes either. So, the list of standard equipment should be pretty much the same as for the current model, which comes standard with dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, an 8-inch touch screen, a nine-speaker stereo, Amazon Alexa capability, voice command, Bluetooth, four USB ports, and HD Radio. Higher trim levels also offer upgrades like tri-zone climate control, navigation, the Lexus Enform App Suite, and a 17-speaker Mark Levinson premium audio system.

This model has always been great in terms of safety and the next year’s version won’t be any different. You may count on a long list of standard safety features, which includes goodies like a rearview camera, rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure alert, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlights, and blind spot monitoring. You can pay extra for upgrades like front and rear parking sensors, LED fog lights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a surround-view parking camera system.

2022 Lexus GX 460 Engine

The 2022 Lexus GX 460 will continue with the good-old 4.6-liter V8, which puts out around 300 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque. That’s enough power to move this SUV with ease but don’t expect any sporty performance from it. The engine comes in pair with a 6-speed automatic transmission, which does a decent job as well.

This engine is capable and reliable. However, it’s also quite thirsty. You may count on no more than 15 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. That’s pretty low for the class. When properly equipped, this SUV can tow up to 6.500 pounds.

2022 Lexus GX 460 Release Date and Price

We don’t expect that the 2022 Lexus GX 460 will arrive before the last quarter of the year. Simply, it will come without more important changes, which also indicates that the price is about to remain the same. So, base versions should go around 54.000 dollars.
