The Japanese manufacturer has just expanded its lineup with the model called 2022 Infiniti QX55. This is a brand-new name in the company’s offer, which represents the brand in the segment of coupe crossovers. Although a new name, this model uses a lot of old parts. It has a lot of things in common with the QX50, especially when it comes to the interior, suspension and engine.
That’s why this crossover offers a lot of familiar characteristics, despite that we are talking about a new vehicle. You may count on spacious and comfortable seats, a capable turbo-four engine and a long list of standard features. This also means that you may count on a lot of drawbacks, starting from an uninspiring handling, outdated infotainment system and CVT gearbox.
The new model already debuted and it is available in three variants – Luxe, Essential, and Sensory. The base price starts at around 47.500 dollars.
2022 Infiniti QX55 Design
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2022 Infiniti QX55 is a brand-new nameplate in the brand’s portfolio, but also a model that uses a lot of old parts. It shares so many things with the QX50, starting from the platform. It rides on the same CMF architecture and even shares the wheelbase. The suspension setup is also pretty much the same, which means you may count on the same driving characteristics. This crossover isn’t particularly engaging to drive. The steering is loose and definitely isn’t for drivers who look for an engaging driving experience.
The main difference compared to the QX50 is in the styling. It looks a little bit bolder and obviously, it brings that coupe-like appearance. You can clearly see a new sloping roof design, which makes the crossover look sportier. However, such a design also impacts practicality and overall functionality negatively and we will get on that in a moment.
Interior
Although we are talking about a brand-new model, the 2022 Infiniti QX55 interior looks familiar. The dashboard is practically the same as in the QX50, and this even includes the same dual-screen setup, which looks a little bit outdated compared to what rivals have to offer. On the other hand, it’s hard to bring any complaint regarding interior quality. The materials are really nice, while the overall build quality is also at a pretty high level.
The amount of passenger space is also pretty generous. The front seats are massive and supportive, probably the most comfortable in the class. The second row also accommodates adult passengers with ease, though the sloping roof cuts a little bit of headroom.
For the same reason, the cargo area isn’t particularly spacious. You may count on about 26.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind its rear seats and 54.1 cubic feet with these seats folded, and that’s more than you get in similarly designed models like BMW X4 or Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe.
Features
The 2022 Infiniti QX55 comes with a quite long list of standard equipment. Some of the highlights are goodies like 8- and 7-inch touch screens, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, four USB ports, a six-speaker stereo, satellite radio, Wi-Fi hot spot, dual-zone climate control, moonroof, keyless entry, remote start etc. Additionally, you can get things like tri-zone climate control, a navigation system and a 16-speaker stereo.
When it comes to safety, all models come standard with features like a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high-beam headlights. Additionally, you can get goodies like road sign recognition, adaptive headlights, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and the ProPilot Assist system.
2022 Infiniti QX55 Engine
The 2022 Infiniti QX55 engine setup is also quite familiar. This crossover uses a familiar 2.0-liter turbo-four engine, with variable compression, which features a max output of 268 horsepower. The engine comes in pair with a CVT gearbox, which works fine but kills all the excitement that this good engine could give.
On the other side, the benefit of this setup is good fuel economy. You may count on about 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, which is good for the class.
2022 Infiniti QX55 Pricing
The 2022 Infiniti QX55 is offered in three trim levels:
The base Luxe model starts at around 47.500 dollars.
The mid-range Essential model is available at 52.500 dollars.
Finally, the range-topping Sensory trim costs around 58.000 dollars.
