It’s time for the fourth generation of Hyundai’s compact crossover. After five years of production, the successful third generation has been discontinued and the new model brings even higher expectations. Simply, it brings improvements in many aspects and feels like a much better product. Even though it’s been around for a very short time, many experts already consider the 2022 Hyundai Tucson one of the best models in one of the most competitive segments of the automotive industry.

The new generation has brought a lot of things. First of all, there is a completely new design, which brings a quite interesting look, along with improved mechanics and overall ride quality. Still, we thing that the biggest improvement of the new model is its interior, which looks pretty much on par with premium-badged compact crossovers. Also, the cabin is more spacious than before, while the list of standard and available equipment is longer than before.

Finally, there are novelties in terms of powertrain, as there are two new hybrid versions on offer.

2022 Hyundai Tucson Design

Design-wise, the new 2022 Hyundai Tucson brings a lot of novelties. Obviously, the first thing you’ll notice is a new styling. The new model looks significantly different compared to the previous model. While the third generation was characterized by a pretty conservative styling, the new model brings rather radical aesthetics, highlighted by a futuristic front-end design, which brings an interesting grille shape and pattern, along with integrated headlights. The rest of the vehicle looks bolder and more capable.

On the other hand, mechanical changes aren’t that significant. In this aspect, the new Tucson represents the evolution of the previous design. The comfort is better now, as well as the ride quality. Also, the new model is slightly bigger, which brings benefits on the inside as well.

Interior

As we’ve just mentioned, the new 2022 Hyundai Tucson is slightly bigger than its predecessor. Logically, it offers more space than before, both for the passengers and the cargo. Once again, we are talking about two spacious rows of seats, which accommodate five passengers with ease. The front seats are well-designed too. We like their contour, while the driving position is very good too, whether it’s about ergonomics or visibility. The cargo area offers around 38.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind its rear seats and a vast 74.8. These numbers put Tucson among class leaders in the segment of compact crossovers.

Besides plenty of space, this cabin offers an impressive overall quality. The aesthetics are clean and modern, while the materials are mostly soft to the touch. Also, the build quality is excellent, which puts the new Tucson well above most rivals. Simply said, this is one of the most luxurious cabins in the segment.  Higher trim levels also bring a larger touchscreen, digital instrument cluster and other tech goodies that make everything look even more luxurious.

2022 Hyundai Tucson Engines

When it comes to powertrain, the base model continues in a rather familiar way. It comes with a familiar 2.5-liter inline-four, which delivers 187 horsepower. It comes in pair with an 8-speed automatic transmission and the overall impression in terms of performance is quite decent. Also, we like the fuel economy, which goes around 27 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.

The new generation has also brought two hybrid powertrain options. Both are based on a 1.6-liter turbo-four engine. The first one features a classic hybrid setup and offers a total output of 225 horsepower. Also, you may count on an average fuel economy of 34 mpg combined.

The second one is a plug-in hybrid, which uses a more powerful electric motor, for a combined output of 265 horsepower. It also features a significantly larger battery pack, which ensures around 30 miles of the all-electric ranger. The combined fuel economy goes around 33 miles per gallon.

Features

Even the most basic 2022 Hyundai Tucson comes with a decent amount of standard equipment. You may count on features like an 8-inch touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, two USB ports, HD Radio, and a six-speaker stereo.

Of course, there is much more to get in more expensive variants. Some of the most notable upgrades are things like dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, push-button start, panoramic sunroof, 10.25-inch touch screen, a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster, navigation, wireless device charging, satellite radio, an eight-speaker Bose stereo, and two rear-seat USB ports.
