Big changes are coming with the 2022 GMC Sierra. The current generation has been around for a while and it’s time for a mid-cycle update. We are about to see a lot of changes, starting from the new styling. Besides the new look, the next year’s model will also bring a completely new interior design, finally. You may count on a new dashboard design and a full load of new tech features. On the other hand, the engine lineup will remain the same.
Another big novelty that is coming is the new generation of the Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system. The new system will be far more advanced and it will even be able to tow a trailer, overtake slow vehicles etc. The new model is expected to arrive sometime in the last quarter of the year. On the other hand, HD models won’t feature bigger updates.
2022 GMC Sierra Design
In terms of base design characteristics, the 2022 GMC Sierra won’t change too much. We will see the same mechanics, based on the T1 platform. On the other hand, the styling will be notably updated. The test mule still wears a lot of camouflage, which indicates interesting changes. Both front and rear ends should be revised, while we also count on typical mid-cycle updates, such as new wheels, color options and similar things.
Of course, exclusive versions like the 2022 GMC Sierra Denali will continue with a lot of unique details, such as grille, wheels, interior details etc.
On the other hand, the 2022 GMC Sierra AT4 won’t be different just visually. It will also come with a lot of off-road hardware, with features like a 2-inch suspension lift, hill descent control, skid plates, an off-road suspension, a two-speed transfer case.
The 2022 GMC Sierra interior will finally be all-new. You know the story about the last redesign when the cabin layout from the previous generation carried over with almost no changes. This has been the weakest point of the truck but things are finally about to change. The next year’s model is about to come with a completely new dashboard design. You may count on the new instrument cluster as well, as well as on things like a new center stack, new center console, and many more.
Of course, we will see a much bigger touchscreen on the offer, probably with a new infotainment system. Another big change will be a new gear shifter. Instead of the current steering column-mounted shifter, the new selector will be in the place where it should be, on the center stack.
Another part of this update will be the addition of new standard and available features. One of the biggest novelties will be the addition of the new generation of GM’s well-known Super Cruise. The new version of the system will be more autonomous and it will be able to tow a trailer, overtake slower vehicles etc.
Other than the new Super Cruise, we expect to see a new infotainment system, along with a bigger touchscreen. Base models should also come with goodies like a six-speaker audio system (two speakers in Regular Cab models), Bluetooth, a USB port, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. On the other hand, more expensive models will come with upgrades like an 8-inch touch screen, a seven-speaker Bose audio system, satellite radio, HD Radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, additional USB ports, voice recognition, and navigation, a sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry, remote start, and two 120-volt household-style power outlets etc.
The same thing is with safety. We might see a few additions, though the current model already stands pretty well in this aspect. You can get things like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, lane change alert, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, a surround-view parking camera system, a rear camera mirror, and a head-up display.
2022 GMC Sierra Engines
The engine lineup will certainly remain the same. Base models will continue with a good-old 4.3-liter V6, which puts out around 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque. The next one in the line is a 2.7-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 310 horsepower and 348 pound-feet of torque.
The V8 lineup starts with a 5.3-liter engine, which features a max output of 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. There is also a bigger 6.2-liter V8, which puts out around 420 horses and 460 pound-feet of torque.
Finally, there is a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6, which is good for about 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
2022 GMC Sierra Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2022 GMC Sierra will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 31.000 dollars. Key competitors are Ford F-150, Ram 1500, Toyota Tundra etc.
