2022 GMC Jimmy Comeback: Rumors and Expectations
Crossovers are great but they can’t replace genuine body-on-frame SUVs. That’s why more and more carmakers are bringing fully-framed designs. The Ford Bronco came back, while we are also hearing reports about the Nissan Xterra. On the other side, Jeep Wrangler and Toyota 4Runner are still marking impressive sales numbers. Obviously, GM wants its piece of the cake and if we can trust the latest reports, they will try to get it with the 2022 GMC Jimmy.
If this model happens, it would be another comeback of the familiar nameplate. The Jimmy is a well-known name in the business, which was a re-badged version of the Chevy Blazer. Meanwhile, Chevy’s model became a crossover, but GMC won’t make the same mistake, reports say. So, you may count on a genuine SUV design, on a capable off-roader that will feature a fully framed design.
The new model is expected to arrive already in the next year.
2022 GMC Jimmy Design
At this point, the 2022 GMC Jimmy is still just a rumor but if it is about to arrive, we believe that some of the key design characteristics are an easy guess. This particularly refers to the platform. We have no doubt that the new Jimmy would be a genuine SUV, with a body-on-frame layout and lots of off-road potentials. The new model is expected to be a mid-size SUV, which clearly indicates a tight connection with pickups like GMC Canyon and Chevy Colorado. These models may be old but with a couple of updates, this platform would be competitive enough.
Among these updates, we would expect to see a completely new, more refined suspension setup, which would provide excellent off-road performances but also make this SUV smooth on the road. Furthermore, we count on all kinds of off-road hardware, such as locking differentials, two-speed transfer case and other things.
When it comes to the exterior design, we’ve just mentioned that the new 2022 GMC Jimmy would be a mid-size SUV. Still, we don’t expect it would be too big, as things like a too long wheelbase would compromise off-road capabilities. Somewhere around 115 inches sounds pretty find in our ears.
The overall shape is expected to come in a typical SUV manner. We count on a boxy shape, which would accentuate the model’s tough fully framed character. Of course, the front end would take inspiration from GMC’s latest trucks and SUVs, such as Sierra and Yukon. The brand’s latest design language is characterized by pretty boxy and bold shapes and design solutions, so we have no doubt that the new SUV would look great.
Naturally, count on Denali and AT4 models, which would come with all kinds of styling details, as well as other features.
As we are talking about a body-on-frame SUV, we presume that the cabin would be rather functional and durable than stylish. Still, that doesn’t mean that the overall quality would be bad, or that the cabin would feature low-rent materials. We count on a nice balance between soft-touch surfaces and durable materials, which would ensure years of successful exploitation.
Besides good overall quality, this model should also provide plenty of interior space. We believe that three rows of seats would be available at least as an option. Naturally, the first two rows of seats would be spacious and comfortable, while the third row would be typically tight for the mid-size segment. Of course, the cargo area should also offer some respectable numbers.
2022 GMC Jimmy Engines
When it comes to the powertrain, we would expect Chevy’s proven units. Most likely, base models would come with a 3.6-liter V6 engine, which puts out around 310 horsepower. We wouldn’t be surprised if GM offers a diesel version as well. Also, we could see a new 10-transmission paired with these engines.
Keep in mind that the car market is going crazy and that everyone wants a performance model these days. Therefore, we could see something bigger and more powerful in the offer as well. One of the engines that comes to mind is a 5.3-liter V8, which puts out around 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque.
2022 GMC Jimmy Release Date and Price
At this point, the officials are still quiet about the return of GMC Jimmy. On the other hand, rumors suggest it could arrive already in the next year. If it arrives, we believe the base price would go somewhere around 30-35.000 dollars.
