Chevy’s subcompact crossover has been around for a full nine years and it looks like GM won’t stop producing it. Even though replacement came in the form of a new Trailblazer, the Trax still makes really impressive sales numbers and that’s the reason why it’s going to remain in production for a few more years. Also, we are pretty sure it won’t feature too many changes. Moreover, we expect that the 2022 Chevy Trax will be a typical carryover model.

This means you may count on familiar characteristics. Despite the age, it still has a couple of great things to offer, starting from a really affordable price. We also like its high predicted reliability rating and great maneuverability. Also, the cabin is quite spacious, considering the overall size. On the other side, key drawbacks are firm ride and underpowered engines.

As there are no bigger changes to come, we presume that the 2022 Chevy Trax will hit the market sometime late in the year.

2022 Chevy Trax Design

As we already mentioned, this is a pretty old vehicle by today’s standards. It dates from 2012, so it’s no wonder it rides on a good-old Gamma II platform and shares most of its parts with Opel Mokka. With just 100.6 inches in wheelbase, it’s a very maneuverable vehicle, perfect for urban jungles. However, the suspension setup could be more refined, considering that the ride can be pretty harsh sometimes.

Visually, this model looks okay. The 2022 Chevy Trax will continue with the same design, which was updated for the 2017 model years. For that case, we saw a number of nice changes, especially at the front. The facelifted model came with new headlights, a new grille, bumper, wheels and many other upgrades. So, the best the next year’s model could bring are minor updates like new color options and similar things.

Interior

Just like the exterior, the interior was also updated in 2017. We saw a revised dashboard and finer materials but it’s hard to consider it attractive enough by today’s standards. There is a whole army of much younger competitors, which look way more upscale, whether it’s about materials, aesthetics and tech features. On the other side, we can’t find any complaint regarding the cabin’s functionality.

Despite the size, this crossover offers a decent amount of space. The amount of leg and headroom is decent in both rows of seats and we can say four adults can enjoy a comfortable ride. However, the fronts seats would definitely use more support.

The cargo area also offers some pretty decent numbers. You may count on about 18.7 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 48.4 cubic feet, which is about average for a subcompact crossover.

Features

This aspect probably won’t bring any particular change and a good thing to know is that the current model already comes with a quite decent list of standard equipment. It comes standard with keyless entry, a 7-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hot spot, satellite radio, a six-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, voice command, and two USB ports. Additionally, you can get cruise control and remote start.

The same thing is with safety features. We count on pretty much the same list of standard and available driver aids. This means that base versions will feature a rearview camera. Higher trim levels will also include goodies like blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors.

2022 Chevy Trax Engine

Things under the hood definitely won’t change, even though this is one of the weakest points of this crossover. Compared to rivals, it feels underpowered, which is no wonder considering that it comes with a 1.4-liter engine, which features a max output of 138 horsepower. Therefore, we can say this crossover could be a good choice for daily commuting, while more ambitious drivers definitely won’t be pleased with performances.

The engine comes in pair with a 6-speed automatic transmission, which does a pretty decent job. Also, fuel economy is about average for the segment. You may count on about 26 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.

2022 Chevy Trax Release Date and Price

Since there are no bigger changes to come, we presume that the 2022 Chevy Trax will hit the market sometime late in the year. When it comes to the price, base models should go around 21.000 dollars. The competition in this segment is pretty tough. Some of the key players are models like Subaru Crosstrek, Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-30 etc.
