If the 2021 YM was a mystery about the level of changes, now it is clear – the 2022 Chevy Traverse will be redesigned. That means the SUV for the next season is unchanged. Well, GM planned to introduce novelties with the late debut. However, COVID-19 spoiled the schedule, not only for the mid-size SUV but also for some other newcomers. The fresh version of Equinox crossover debuted just before the pandemic started. The company is not going to postpone the sales start of its big rigs, Chevy Tahoe and Suburban.
The 2022 Chevy Traverse will continue with the complete refreshment of the crossover and SUV lineup. The mid-size segment is currently one of the hottest in the market, with and an increased interest in seven-seaters. Actually, Traverse has room for eight persons. If you want to search for a downside, the lack of drivetrain options is the first thing coming to our mind. A V6 is the only power source for the mid-size SUV. This delay will provide more time for engineers and designers to build and test more options. One of the possibilities is a hybrid engine.
2022 Chevy Traverse Facelift Details
As you can guess, the redesign of the 2022 Chevy Traverse will remind us of the larger class. The mid-size SUV will borrow a similar language as Tahoe and Suburban. Still, unique modifications will make it special and different from its siblings. The cosmetic update starts on the front fascia, where the new grille introduces a fresh shape. It is narrower. To complete the bold appearance, designers enlarged the bumper. A few accents will make the SUV eye-catching. LED lamps, a new style of headlights and fog lights, sporty turn indicators, and a fresh design of wheels are all included in this facelift.
Interior
Like the exterior, the cabin is bringing a lot of changes. Designers started with materials. New shades are also available. All the information is displayed on an 8-inch screen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available for the multimedia system. The mid-size SUV remains a three-row vehicle, with more space for passengers and cargo than before. Now, the cargo space of the 2022 Chevy Traverse is more than 100 cubic feet with all seats folded.
Safety
Another segment where GM paid a lot of attention. Now, drivers will have more aid features and technologies to make the ride more convenient. Well, for the advanced technologies, you must pay extra. Nevertheless, even the base 2022 Traverse will be loaded with a nice safety package. For example, emergency braking is standard, as well as lane-assist systems. Optionally, buyers can purchase adaptive cruise control on higher trim levels. Of course, High Country will have it as one of the numerous upgrades of this premium trim.
2022 Chevy Traverse Keeps V6, Hybrid Introduction is Waiting
A 3.6-liter V6 with 310 horsepower is the main power source of the 2022 Chevy Traverse. It is a reliable partner for many years and the perfect drivetrain for the mid-size class. It offers plenty of power and still respectable fuel economy numbers. The engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The default configuration sends power to front wheels. All models but the base trim are available with an all-wheel drive. The combined fuel economy will be slightly better thanks to the lighter materials used for the new 2022 Traverse. Still, we cannot expect a huge jump from 21 mpg with FWD and 20 mpg with AWD.
Engineers cut a turbo-four engine from the lineup. It was an exclusive drivetrain for the RS model, which is questionable for the next season. Still, the carmaker must add another option to the lineup to provide a choice to buyers. A four-pot was bringing a better fuel economy. In 2022, we can see the same from the hybrid configuration. General Motors needs such an engine. The company started the campaign and in two years we will see the first all-electric models by this carmaker. Cadillac Lyriq and Hummer truck are already confirmed. Nevertheless, General Motors will need more hybrid SUVs to stay competitive with Toyota and Ford.
2022 Chevy Traverse Release Date, Trim Levels, Prices
GM showed what to expect from the upcoming Traverse. The SUV was supposed to introduce the new look in 2021, but in April the company announced that production is postponed and the vehicle is coming as 2022 YM. Sales could start somewhere in mid-2021. By then, a hybrid engine might become official as well.
The base price will be around $33,000, which is a couple of thousand more than the existing version. Top of the class 2022 Chevy Traverse High Country will start close to $60,000 and end up over $70,000. Well, the level of features on this package is stunning and the SUV enters the luxury realm with this one. Sometimes, we believe the High Country is even better than the offer coming from the premium Cadillac branch and the new XT6 mid-size SUV.
