2022 Chevy Suburban Preview: Changes, Specs, Features
Chevy’s legendary SUV has been around for decades and the latest iteration was launched last year. With all the novelties and improvements that came, it seems obvious that the second production year won’t bring any particular change. Therefore, the 2022 Chevy Suburban is about to continue in the same way. Still, we won’t exclude rumors completely, as they suggest different kinds of novelties, starting from a performance version that could bring back the legendary SS badge.
All in all, you may count on a familiar layout. The recent redesign has brought a lot of novelties and we can say it’s quite hard to find any major drawback in this SUV. It is extremely spacious and comfortable, it comes with loads of standard and available equipment, while we also like its capable powertrain options. Furthermore, you may count on one of the biggest cargo areas in the automotive industry today.
Considering that there are no significant changes to come, we presume that the 2022 Chevy Suburban will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.
2022 Chevy Suburban Design
In terms of base design characteristics, the 2022 Chevy Suburban definitely won’t change. You may count on the same overall design, which is now based on a new T1 platform. Compared to the previous generation, the new model is lighter and easier to drive. It is also more efficient, while we particularly like the standard independent rear suspension, which ensures more space inside the cabin, a higher level of comfort and more engaging handling.
Visually, the recent redesign has brought a completely new layout, heavily inspired by the current-generation Silverado. All in all, we don’t expect more important updates.
When it comes to the possible 2022 Chevy Suburban SS version, it is just a rumor for now and we don’t find it very likely. However, if it arrives, it should include a lot of upgrades, both in terms of mechanics and aesthetics. Some sources even suggest power upgrades.
Once again, no bigger changes are about to come. Simply, the recent overhaul has brought a completely new interior layout. The new cabin is nicer and features much better build quality than before. Furthermore, we like the new infotainment screen and a long list of standard equipment. Still, the best thing about this SUV is the amount of space.
All three rows are impressive in terms of passenger room and the 2022 Chevy Suburban will continue to accommodate up to eight adults with ease. We also like the driving position, which provides great visibility in all directions. The list of standard equipment includes goodies like cloth upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, and manually adjustable second- and third-row bench seats are standard.
When it comes to the cargo area, you may count 41.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind its third-row seats, 93.8 cubic feet with these seats folded, and 144.7 cubic feet of total cargo volume. Those are the class-leading numbers, which can also be found in GMC Yukon XL.
Considering that we are talking about the second production year, it’s hard to expect any bigger changes in terms of standard and available equipment. The current model already comes with a long list of features. There are things like keyless entry, tri-zone climate control, a 10.2-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, eight USB ports, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hot spot, HD Radio, satellite radio, and six speakers.
In higher trim levels, you can get much more. Some of the highlights are features like a sunroof, power liftgate, a navigation system, nine- and 10-speaker stereos, wireless device charging, and a rear-seat entertainment system with two 12.6-inch touchscreen.
2022 Chevy Suburban Engines
Naturally, the 2022 Chevy Suburban will continue with three familiar powertrain options. Base models will continue with a 5.3-liter V8, which puts out around 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. Those who are looking for something more capable can opt for a well-known 6.2-liter V8, which puts out around 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
Starting from the last year, the legendary SUV is also available in a diesel version. It uses a familiar 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6, which puts out around 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. It’s not fast as gasoline models but its impressive max torque allows it to mode this huge SUV with ease. Also, this is the most fuel-efficient version of the SUV you can get.
All three engines come in pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
2022 Chevy Suburban Release Date and Price
We expect to see the 2022 Chevy Suburban sometime in the last quarter of the year. Base models should go around 53.000 dollars. Of course, Ford Expedition MAX will remain the key competitor but we should also mention models like Toyota Sequoia, which also offer plenty of passenger and cargo space. Of course, there are more luxurious alternatives as well, like Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator etc.
