2022 Cadillac XT5 Preview: Changes, Specs, Features
This compact luxury crossover has been around for more than five years but it looks like Cadillac won’t bother too much with changes for the next year. According to the latest reports, the 2022 Cadillac XT5 is about to continue in the same way, featuring familiar design characteristics and features. Practically, the only notable changes we could see for the next year are slight revisions regarding the standard and available features.
On the other hand, the overall design will certainly remain the same. We are about to see a familiar layout, characterized by a comfortable ride and a spacious cabin. This crossover also offers a pretty intuitive infotainment system, while a high predicted reliability rating is also one of the strong points. There are also few things we don’t like, such as below-average interior quality, uninspiring handling etc.
Considering that there are no significant changes to come, we expect that the 2022 Cadillac XT5 release date will be scheduled for the last quarter of the year.
2022 Cadillac XT5 Design
Design-wise, not many things have changed since 2016, when this crossover was launched. The mechanics are the same, based on the company’s well-known C1 platform. Of course, we are talking about an FWD layout, which may be one of the reasons why this crossover can’t deliver any more inspiring handling and overall ride quality. Still, there are many FWD rivals in the class that ride way better, starting from the pretty engaging Acura MDX.
Visually, the XT5 doesn’t follow the brand’s latest design language, but it looks nice. It offers an attractive design, which combines sharp lines with Cadillac’s familiar shield-like grille design. Such a combination looks elegant and we have no doubt that this crossover will age pretty well. Of course, there is always a chance to see a couple of minor updates for the next year, such as new color options, but we don’t expect to see too many of them.
The 2022 Cadillac XT5 interior will also continue in the same way, which is both good and bad things. What we don’t like about this cabin is the overall quality. The dashboard looks nice and modern, while the materials are okay. However, pretty much all rivals come with nicer materials, better build quality, and a more upscale look. Also, a bigger infotainment screen would be nice.
On the other side, there is nothing to complain about regarding space and functionality. This crossover comes with two spacious rows of seats. The front seats are massive and supportive, while the driving position is pretty good. The outward visibility is also pretty good in all directions.
When it comes to the cargo area, you may count on 30.2 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats, while the total capacity goes up to 63 cubic feet. That’s about average for the segment.
We don’t expect that the 2022 Cadillac XT5 could come with too many changes regarding the standard and available equipment, though few minor tweaks are always possible. Most of the things should remain the same, so base models will probably come standard with goodies like dual-zone climate control, n 8-inch touch screen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an eight-speaker Bose audio system, satellite radio, Bluetooth, USB ports, and a Wi-Fi hot spot. Higher trim levels come with a couple of notable upgrades, such as tri-zone climate control, wireless device charging, navigation, a 14-speaker Bose audio system, rear-seat entertainment system etc.
When it comes to safety, the current model comes standard with goodies like a rearview camera, a safety alert seat, forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, front and rear parking sensors, lane keep assist, and lane departure warning. Additionally, you can get goodies like a head-up display, night vision assists, a rear camera mirror, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane change alert, rear cross traffic alert, rear pedestrian alert, reverse automatic emergency braking, a surround-view parking camera system.
2022 Cadillac XT5 Engines
Things under the hood definitely won’t change for the next year. The 2022 Cadillac XT5 will continue with two familiar engine options, starting from a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 235 horsepower. That’s enough for decent performance, while more ambitious drivers can opt for the V6. In that case, this crossover comes equipped with a 3.6-liter V6, which puts out around 310 horsepower.
Both engines come coupled with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The base engine returns around 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. On the other hand, the V6 is thirstier and returns around 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.
2022 Cadillac XT5 Release Date and Price
We expect that the next year’s model will hit showrooms by the end of 2021. When it comes to the 2022 Cadillac XT5 price, base models should go around 44.000 dollars.
