It looks like the company’s smallest crossover in the offer won’t come with too many changes for the next year. The current generation has been around for a while and the initial plan was to see a facelift for the 2022 Cadillac XT4. However, that won’t happen, as the latest reports suggest this mid-cycle update has been moved for 2023. So, the next year’s model will continue in a familiar way, with familiar design characteristics and features. The best we could see are small updates like new standard equipment or color options.

On the other side, the overall design will remain the same. This means you may count on a vehicle that may not be as refined as most rivals, but still has a lot of good things to offers. We like the fact that it is spacious and comfortable, while the list of standard equipment is pretty long. Also, the cargo area behind the second row is quite spacious.

Since no one expects to see bigger changes for the next year, the launch date should be scheduled for the end of 2021.

As we’ve just mentioned, no one expects to see bigger changes for the next year. Therefore, you may count on a familiar design, which is based on a good-old E2 platform, the same one that underprints models like Equinox and Terrain. However, this particular version comes with numerous upgrades, which have a highly positive impact on ride quality. The chassis and suspension are designed in such a way as to provide a smooth and comfortable ride. On the other side, handling isn’t that engaging and most rivals are far more fun to drive.

The visual aspect of the vehicle will also remain pretty much the same. Of course, there is always a chance to see things like new colors or maybe even some new visual packages. However, the overall styling will certainly remain the same.

Interior

Since the facelift has been delayed, it’s obvious that the cabin layout will also remain the same. This means that you may count on an interior that looks nice and features good overall quality. However, rivals look even more upscale, with finer materials and better fit&finish.

While the overall quality may be questionable, no one can deny that this cabin is very spacious and comfortable. With more than 109 inches in wheelbase, it offers plenty of legroom in both rows, while the headroom is impressive too. As a result, it accommodates five adult passengers with ease, even though we are talking about the subcompact crossover.

Behind the second row, you can find 22.5 cubic feet of cargo space, which is pretty good for the segment. On the other side, the total cargo space goes around 49 cubic feet, which is also good but still behind the totals that most competitors offer.

Features

We presume that GM won’t bother with updates too much, considering that the major refresh is now planned for the 2023 model year. So, the list of standard features should remain pretty much the same. The current model comes standard with tech goodies like an 8-inch touch screen, a seven-speaker stereo, satellite radio, Bluetooth, USB ports, a Wi-Fi hot spot, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. There are also some pretty nice options like premium audio system, wireless charging, navigation etc.

Things should remain pretty much the same in terms of safety as well. The current model is already pretty generous in this aspect, as it comes standard with goodies like a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, and front pedestrian braking. Of course, there are many more things to get, if you are willing to pay extra.

Things under the hood definitely won’t change. So, the 2022 Cadillac XT4 will continue with just one engine on the offer. That would be a familiar 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 237 horsepower and  258 pound-feet of torque. That seems like an adequate amount of power and in practice, dynamics are pretty satisfying. The power is sent through a nine-speed automatic transmission, which does a pretty decent job.

The powertrain by itself is refined and provides a pretty smooth ride. The fuel economy is also pretty decent. It goes around 24 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway, which is quite typical for the segment.

2022 Cadillac XT4 Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2022 Cadillac XT4 will hit the market sometime late in the year. Also, the price should remain pretty much the same as for the current model, which starts at around 36.000 dollars. The competition in the segment is pretty tough. Some of the key players are models like BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA, Lexus UX, Audi Q3 etc.
