The Bavarian carmaker has prepared some pretty nice updates for its compact coupe crossover. The X4 has been around for about three years in the current form and it seems like a perfect time for updates. We are about to see the 2022 BMW X4 with a plethora of novelties, not just in terms of styling, but in other aspects as well. We will see interesting novelties under the hood, as well as some pretty nice interior changes.
Despite the updates, the overall layout will remain the same. So, you may count on familiar characteristics and experiences. This crossover offers attractive styling, impressive handling and smooth and powerful engines. Furthermore, we also like its interior, as well as a pretty long list of standard equipment. On the other hand, the biggest drawback is definitely that sloping roof, which sacrifices cargo volume and rear-seat passenger room.
The 2022 BMW X4 release date should be scheduled for the last quarter of the year.
2022 BMW X4 Design
This is going to be a typical mid-cycle update. Therefore, we may expect to see familiar base design characteristics. Most of the design is about to remain the same, but you may count on some interesting 2022 BMW X4 changes as well. This particularly refers to aesthetics, while the mechanical aspect of the vehicle is expected to remain mainly the same.
Naturally, most of these styling updates will happen at the front. We are about to see a new face, characterized by bigger kidneys. Fortunately, they won’t be as big as those found in the new M3 and M4 models. The 2022 BMW X4 facelift will come with more style and best the new grille, you may also count on things like new headlights, bumper etc. The rear end will come with a couple of updates too. You may count on new taillights,as well as on a new rear bumper. Naturally, we also expect to see updates in terms of color options, new wheels and similar things.
The M-badged models will receive the same updates but on the other hand, the upgrades should remain largely the same. You may count on the same tuned suspension and brakes, as well as on a load of styling details that accentuate the hi-performance character of this model.
Interior
Changes will come to the interior as well. From what we can see, the dashboard will undergo few revisions, particularly in terms of the center stack. We will see new air vents and reorganization of audio and climate controls, which will all remain physical. We also expect to see a new, more prominent infotainment screen. Also, we might see some new color schemes, new materials and similar things.
However, the overall cabin layout will remain the same. You may count the same amount of space, as well as on the same ergonomics. The front row is spacious and comfortable, while we particularly like the driving positions. On the other hand, the second row may be generous with legroom, but it’s a little bit tighter in terms of headroom. All in all, taller passengers may have some trouble in the second row.
The cargo area will remain the same as in the current model, which means you may count on about 18.5 cubic feet behind the second row and 50.5 cubic feet of the total volume.
2022 BMW X4 Engines
The biggest novelty under the hood will come with the 2022 BMW X4 M40i model. So far, this version has been characterized by a smooth inline-six engine, which represents a sweet spot between base and M models. The new version will continue with the same engine, but it will also feature a 48-Volt mild-hybrid system. Interestingly, the max output will remain the same, around 382 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. That should be enough to move this crossover from zero to sixty in less than 4.5 seconds.
On the other hand, base models will continue with a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Although notably slower, this engine also provides decent performance and should satisfy most drivers.
Finally, there are the M-badged models. You may count on two of them, bot equipped with the same inline-six as the M40i, but significantly tuned up. The base M model is good for about 473 horsepower. On the other hand, the M Competition features a max output of 503 horsepower, which is enough to provide 0-60 sprint in less than 3.5 seconds.
All engines come in pair with an excellent 8-speed ZF automatic transmission.
2022 BMW X4 Release Date and Price
We expect to see the new version this fall. When it comes to the 2022 BMW X4 price, base models should go around 52.000 dollars. Models like Porsche Macan and Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe should be the biggest rivals.
