It’s been four years since we saw the current generation of this compact crossover for the first time and most experts still consider it one of the best models in the class. Logically, the Bavarian carmaker wants to keep that state, so it’s no wonder that the 2022 BMW X3 is receiving big updates. We are about to see a typical mid-cycle refresh, which will include changes in different aspects.

From what we can see on the test mule, the focus of this update will be on the styling, as we expected. Both ends of the car will receive notable novelties, which should keep it looking fresh for another few years. On the other side, the inside of this SUV shouldn’t change too much, though minor tweaks will probably happen. Changes under the hood are not expected.

Given the number of updates, we presume that the 2022 BMW X3 release date will be scheduled for an earlier date than usual.

2022 BMW X3 Design

The 2022 BMW X3 changes will happen in various aspects but the overall layout will remain the same. This particularly refers to the mechanics, which should remain pretty much untouched. On the other side, we count on a lot of visual updates. The test mule has been spotted on the road and it wears a fine amount of camouflage.

Of course, most of the things will happen at the front end. We will see a new bumper, with sharper lines and a more aggressive shape. Furthermore, the grille should become slightly bigger, while the headlights should utilize a slightly slimmer design.

The 2022 BMW X3 facelift will also include a couple of changes on the rear end. We presume one of the biggest changes in this area could be the rear bumper. Taillights will probably retain the same shape, but we should see a new internal design.

Besides changes on both ends, we also expect to see a couple of typical mid-cycle updates, such as new color options, new wheels etc.

Interior

Interior changes are not expected. Simply, it’s very rare to see a BMW model with changes during a production cycle and we don’t see any reason why the 2022 BMW X3 interior should be an exception, especially if we consider that the current cabin looks really nice.  The dashboard features a classic design, without too many flashy details. Still, the build quality and materials are really, really impressive.

Besides the great visual appeal, this cabin is also very spacious. It comes with two rows of seats and both rows offer plenty of leg and headroom to accommodate adult passengers with ease. Also, we really like the driving position, which is perfect in terms of ergonomics. The visibility is good in all directions.

Another thing to like about this crossover is the cargo area. You may count on about 28.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row and 62.7 cubic feet with the second row folded down. Those are some of the biggest numbers in the class.

Features

When it comes to standard features, we definitely expect to see a couple of new things. They won’t be numerous and some important things should definitely happen. This particularly refers to the infotainment system and smartphone integration. The current model comes only with Apple CarPlay as standard features. On the other side, Android Auto is only optional for now.

This will probably change with the 2022 BMW X3, which should come standard with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay on this list of standard features. A few more novelties should come as well.

2022 BMW X3 Engines

This aspect probably won’t bring bigger changes. Instead, we count on the same powertrain options in the offer. Base models should continue with a familiar 2.0-liter turbo-four, which is good for about 248 horsepower. While that’s plenty enough for most drivers, there are also few more capable versions in the offer. The first one is a model called M40i, which comes with a 3.0-liter turbo inline-six, with a max output of 382 horsepower. Finally, there is the X3 M, with the same engine but a significant power boost. In this case, you may count on a max output of 473 horsepower, which is enough to move this crossover from zero to sixty in just four seconds.

Also, there is a plug-in hybrid version, which combines a turbo-four engine with an electric motor, for a total output of 288 horsepower. The system also includes a 12-kWh battery pack, which ensures a max range of 17 miles in the EV mode.

2022 BMW X3 Release Date and Price

We expect to see the 2022 BMW X3 a little bit earlier than usual, but still within the second half of the year. Base models should go around 44.000 dollars. Some of the key competitors are models like Mercedes-Benz GLC, Audi Q5, Volvo XC60 etc.
