The 2021 VW Tiguan is about to come with some pretty nice changes. Those are the reports about one of the most popular compact crossovers around, which has been around in the current for about four years. Therefore, it seems like a perfect time for updates. At this point, we don’t know the details, but it looks like the focus will be on styling updates. On the other side, the mechanical aspect is expected to remain the same.

Also, we are eagerly waiting to see the new 2021 VW Tiguan R-Line, which will be a hi-performance version of the popular crossover. This model will feature all kinds of upgrades, starting from a more powerful engine, upgraded suspension, new styling details as well.

Given the update, we have no doubt that the launch date will be scheduled for a little bit earlier date than usual, maybe already for the third quarter of the year.

2021 VW Tiguan Design

In terms of base design characteristics, the 2021 VW Tiguan will remain pretty much untouched. The new model will continue to ride on a modular MQB platform and feature the same proportions, as well as almost complete mechanics. On the other side, count on a lot of styling updates. At this point, we don’t know the details, but there’s no doubt that the focus will be on the front end. If you’re familiar with the German automaker, you know that this company isn’t very generous with mid-cycle updates, so the 2021 VW Tiguan facelift should be pretty modest in terms of changes.

This means you may count subtle changes only. Most likely, we will see new details that closely resemble the recently redesigned VW Golf. This would mean slightly revised headlight, lower and larger grille, as well as a new front bumper. Also, count on things like new color options, wheels design etc.

2021 VW Tiguan Interior

The 2021 VW Tiguan interior probably won’t changes too much. Not only that the German manufacturer isn’t very generous with mid-cycle updates, but the current cabin already looks really amazing. The overall quality is really impressive and gets pretty close to the premium segment, especially in higher trim levels. Fine materials and nice aesthetics are what you get from this crossover.

Moreover, there is a pretty generous list of standard equipment, which could also be expanded after this update. The current model already comes standard with things like a 6.5-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, a USB port, a six-speaker sound system, a Wi-Fi hotspot etc. Some of the currently optional features could become standard as well. This includes things like the digital instrument cluster, 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, remote start, proximity keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control and much more.

Of course, the 2021 VW Tiguan Allspace will be in the offer as well. This is a stretched version of the crossover, with more than 109 inches in wheelbase and standard three rows of seats.

Engines

When it comes to the powertrain, we don’t expect bigger changes, at least when it comes to standard models. In North America, the only engine in the offer is a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which is good for about 184 horsepower. It’s not the most powerful engine around and Tiguan definitely competes with rivals in terms of driving dynamics. Moreover, the fuel economy is also pretty unimpressive. You may count on about 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, which are subpar ratings for the class. Of course, numbers will be even lower in the 2021 VW Tiguan AWD model.

2021 VW Tiguan R-Line

Fortunately for those who are looking for something peppier, the company is about to introduce a new version called 2021 VW Tiguan R-Line. This will be a hi-performance version of the crossover and you may count on loads of upgrades.

The first thing that comes to mind is the engine. Of course, that will be a new version of a 2.0-liter turbo-four, with around 300 horsepower. Besides the new engine, this model will come with all other kinds of upgrades, starting from a new suspension setup and other chassis upgrades. Of course, this model will also feature numerous styling upgrades, starting from new bumpers, wheels and many other details. Of course, interior upgrades are expected as well, in terms of new seats, upgraded instrument cluster, dashboard etc.
