2021 Toyota Tundra Hybrid

There is no doubt that the 2021 Toyota Tundra Hybrid is one of the most anticipated modes for the next year, at least among truck lovers. The popular full-size pickup truck is finally about to receive a complete overhaul. Besides typical changes, we are also about to see big novelties under the hood. Besides conventional gasoline engines, the new Tundra will also come with a hybrid powertrain.

Although Ram trucks feature a so-called eTorque system, we could say that this will be a first genuine hybrid truck on the market. Toyota will once again be a pioneer in the automotive industry and expectations from a new model are huge. We count on excellent efficiency, a great balance between performances and fuel economy. Other than a new hybrid powertrain, the new 2021 Toyota Tundra Hybrid shouldn’t feature too many differences compared to standard gasoline models.

2021 Toyota Tundra Hybrid Specs

Although we are still waiting to hear it from the officials, it is pretty much a certain thing that the new 2021 Toyota Tundra Hybrid will feature a V6-based hybrid system. We expect to see a similar configuration to one that can be found under the hood of the luxurious Lexus LS 500h. The large sedan features a system that combines twin-turbo V6 engine and electric motors, for a total output of 354 horsepower.

Of course, this version will come with significant upgrades. We count on much more power and latest reports are suggesting that the 2021 Toyota Tundra Hybrid will be a range-topping version of the new truck, with a max output of around 450 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. With such numbers, we can also count on respectable numbers in terms of towing capacity. The same system should be used for a few more future Toyota models, including the next-generation Land Cruiser.

Turbo V6

As we’ve just mentioned, the new 2021 Toyota Tundra Hybrid will be the range-topping model. We count on a couple of more engine options. Among them, a new turbo V6 should find its place as well. Most likely, the current base engine, a 4.6-liter V8 will be replaced with something smaller and more efficient. The exact details are still unavailable. But most reports suggest a max output between 300 and 350 horsepower.

This would be the most affordable engine option for the new truck but how about a large V8 version. While there were some rumors about how Toyota could drop V8 engines, the latest reports suggest that the current 5.7-liter unit will carry on. After all, this will probably remain the most popular engine choice among Tundra buyers in the future. Still, the Japanese manufacturer will have to deal with a couple of issues. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is fuel economy. It is very poor in the current model, probably the lowest in the class. Therefore, we count on a couple of revisions on the engine. These would provide better efficiency, not just higher mpg ratings, but more power as well.

2021 Toyota Tundra Redesign

The 2021 Toyota Tundra is about to come completely new, so a hybrid powertrain won’t be the only major novelty for the next year. Considering that the current generation has been around since 2008, you may expect pretty significant changes in some aspects. First of all, Toyota has prepared a new platform, codenamed F1, which will bring some important improvements, particularly in terms of weight reduction and improved driving characteristics.

Of course, new mechanics are about to come and it looks like we are about to see some pretty interesting novelties, starting from a new suspension setup. The testing model still hides rear axle, while some reports suggest air suspension, which would definitely bring a couple of crucial improvements.

Interior

While the exterior design probably won’t bring any radical change, but only the evolution of the current look, the cabin should come with significant novelties. The current interior design dates from 2008, so you may presume how old it actually looks like. Therefore, we expect to see a much modern look, particularly in terms of dashboard design. Besides new aesthetics, it will also come with a full load of latest tech features.

Of course, a full load of Toyota’s safety features seems like a certain thing. Still, we also count on a new infotainment system, with a larger screen, new software, smartphone integration etc. Also, some reports suggest that Toyota might bring back a single-cab version. This cab design has been discontinued several years ago and the current model comes with Double and CrewMax cab designs only.
