With the upcoming redesign of the Tundra pickup truck, the Japanese manufacturer opens a wide range of models that are about to receive a complete redesign in the near future. Considering that this SUV has most things in common with Tundra, we presume its redesign will happen right after. According to the latest reports, the new model will come with tons of modifications, just like its truck sibling. It should arrive as the 2021 Toyota Sequoia and at this point, we know for sure it will get a new platform, new powertrain and completely new styling. Naturally, most design solutions will be borrowed from the Tundra, but we count on a couple of exclusive features, particularly in terms of the styling and features.

At this point, we are still waiting to hear something from the officials, but it looks like the 2021 Toyota Sequoia could take place already in the second half of the next year.

2021 Toyota Sequoia Redesign

There’s no doubt that the 2021 Toyota Sequoia will bring significant improvements in all aspects. Simply, the current generation has been around for more than a decade, so we may expect nothing but significant changes with this redesign. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the platform. That will be the same architecture that has been developed for the new Tundra. It is codenamed F1 and it brings improvements in various aspects, starting from significant weight reduction.

The new model probably won’t feature bigger changes in terms of dimensions, but we count on completely new mechanics. One of the first things that come to mind is suspension, as we expect to see the same setup as in the new pickup truck. This means some air components on the rear axle, which should bring improvements both in terms of comfort and performance.

The recently introduced TRD Pro trim will remain in the offer for sure. We count on even more upgrades that would make 2021 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro an even better off-road performer.

Styling

Naturally, one of the things that this redesign is about to bring is new styling. Once again, we count on a lot of similarities with the Tundra, especially at the front. The two models should feature pretty much the same front face. On the other side, the rest of the vehicle should come in a typical SUV manner, designed to provide a great combination between utility and performances. Therefore, count on a typical wagon-like layout, just like in the current model. When it comes to dimensions, the new model could get a little bit longer wheelbase, but we don’t expect to see anything significant. More details should be known once we see 2021 Toyota Sequoia spy photos.

Interior

The interior is definitely one of the weakest points of the current generation. It looks outdated in all aspects. First of all, the dashboard looks very old, while the tech features are definitely something we don’t expect to see in today’s automotive industry. Finally, pretty much the whole interior is made from hard plastics, so we may presume that all of these aspects will come with significant changes. When it comes to functionality, the current model is decent. The cabin is spacious, as well as the cargo area, though many rivals offer more. Therefore, a couple of inches in wheelbase would be useful for sure.

2021 Toyota Sequoia Engines

Another drawback of the current model is the engine. Of course, we are talking about a well-known 5.7-liter V8, which may be powerful and extremely reliable, but also features the lowest mpg ratings in the class. Therefore, this engine will probably undergo significant modifications, in order to become more fuel-efficient. The current version delivers 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque and returns around  13 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway.

Still, the expected hybrid version looks far more interesting. Of course, it should be the same setup that Toyota prepares for the new Tundra. According to the latest reports, this should be a system based on a 3.5-liter turbo-V6 engine, which will come in pair with two or more electric motors. At this point, the exact numbers are still unavailable. However, the latest reports suggest that a max output will definitely go over 400 horsepower, maybe even up to 450. This promises much better performance compared to the current generation.

2021 Toyota Sequoia Release Date and Price

Although it is still early to talk about any more precise 2021 Toyota Sequoia release date, many reports suggest the new model could hit the market by the end of the next year. If it arrives that soon, we presume that the base price would go around 50.000 dollars.

When it comes to the competition, it is important to mention that some of the potential rivals will also come completely new in the next year. Of course, we are talking about new Chevy Tahoe/GMC Yukon models. Still, there are also models, like the Ford Expedition, Nissan Armada etc.
