The British manufacturer is preparing the next generation of the legendary luxury SUV, which is about to come with loads of novelties in various aspects. Those are the latest reports about the flagship model, which competes with other full-size luxury SUVs, such as Mercedes-Benz GLS, BMW X7, Toyota Land Cruiser etc. The 2021 Range Rover redesign is about to bring a lot of interesting novelties, particularly in terms of weight savings and overall efficiency.

The current model has been around since 2012 and is one of the oldest models in the class. Therefore, it’s no wonder that it lags behind many competitors in certain aspects. This particularly refers to efficiency, so the focus of the upcoming redesign will be on making this SUV lighter. Of course, that won’t be the only important novelty, as we are also about to see novelties in terms of aesthetics, new engines, tech features etc. We presume that the 2021 Range Rover will be scheduled for the second half of the year.

2021 Range Rover Redesign

There is no doubt that the biggest novelty of this redesign will be a new platform. The British manufacturer has developed a completely new architecture, called Modular Longitudinal Architecture or simply MLA. The new platform is expected to be used for other Land Rover and Jaguar models in the future as well.

The biggest improvement that MLA architecture is expected to bring is weight reduction. It looks like the 2021 all-new Range Rover will feature chassis and body mostly made of aluminum, which definitely promises significant pound savings. Still, the exact numbers are still unavailable.

Such weight savings will also leave a lot of room for further electrification progress. The 2021 Range Rover is about to come in various electrified versions, while the all-electric model is expected as well.

 2021 Range Rover Styling

Most experts were suggesting evolutionary in the past few months. The latest 2021 Range Rover spy photos show the same. Although the testing mule still wears a camouflage, it looks obvious that the new model won’t come with any radical change. Moreover, we are about to see the evolution of almost every part of the SUV. This means you won’t see just a familiar face, but also very similar front end and parts like headlights, taillights, grille and more. Also, it looks like the new model will come with pretty much the same exterior dimensions.

Interior

The same thing is expected on the inside. Despite the current model has been around for more than eight years, it still looks great from the inside. Conservative lines and hi-quality are a win-win combination in this case, so we have no doubt that the new 2021 Range Rover interior will stick to the same philosophy. This means a rather simplistic dashboard design, as well as the company’s new dual-touchscreen setup. Also, we count on loads of new smart tech features. In terms of space and cargo volume, we count on similar numbers to the current generation.

2021 Range Rover Engines

Big changes are expected under the hood as well. First of all, the current V6 units will be replaced with the new generation of Ingenium engines, both with four and six cylinders, both diesel and gasoline units. Also, all these engines should be available in the electrified version, which would provide better efficiency, but better performances as well. The current 2.0-liter-based PHEV model should carry on as well.

In the previous reports, most experts were suggesting that the 2021 Range Rover changes would also include discontinuation of the V8 engine, mainly because of poor fuel economy. Eventually, it has been announced that a familiar 5.0-liter V8 won’t be in the offer anymore. However, it looks the company has something else in mind. As a replacement, the new Range Rover will probably use BMW’s 4.4-liter V8  engine, though the exact numbers are still unavailable.

All-Electric Version

Besides various internal-combustion and hybrid powertrain options, the latest reports also suggest a fully electric version. At this point, we don’t know the details, but we are pretty sure that this version won’t be ready for the initial launch. We will rather have to wait for an additional year or two. Moreover, many reports suggest this version could come as a standalone model.

2021 Range Rover Release Date and Price

According to most reports, the 2021 Range Rover release date will be scheduled for the second half of the year. When it comes to the price, the current model starts around 90.000 dollars and we don’t expect drastic changes in the future either.

When it comes to the competition, there are luxury models like Mercedes-Benz GLS, BMW X7, Lincoln Navigator etc. Still, if we consider the model’s impressive off-road performances, Toyota Land Cruiser seems like a natural rival.
