The popular full-size truck has been redesigned last year. The 2021 Ram 1500 will represent the third production year. Normally, we wouldn’t expect to see any bigger changes, as it seems too early for a mid-cycle refresh. However, we are talking about a highly competitive segment, where updates aren’t made just to boost sales, but they are also a matter of prestige. Therefore, each of three North American truck makers makes yearly updates. For example, the 2020 model year brings a new diesel engine, color options and similar things.

According to 2021 Ram 1500 rumors, the next year will bring even bigger updates, as we are about to see a new, hi-performance off-roader caller Rebel. Other than a new version, we could see typical updates in terms of colors, new features etc. The 2021 Ram 1500 should hit the market sometime in the last quarter of next year.

A couple of years ago, we saw a concept version of a performance off-road truck. Now it looks this model is about to hit the market. Of course,  the full-size truck has been redesigned meanwhile, so the 2021 Ram 1500 Rebel TRX will be based on the current generation of this model. Compared to base versions, we count on various kinds of upgrades. One of the first things that come to mind is styling. the new model will take a lot of inspiration from the concept version, which means we can count on lots of graphics, blacked details, upgraded bumpers and similar things.

In terms of mechanics, the new version should come with typical off-road upgrades. This model is designed to compete with F-150 Raptor, so you may count on things like skid plates, upgraded suspension, locking differentials, off-road tires and much more.

Still, the most interesting thing about the 2021 Ram 1500 Rebel TRX is the engines. The latest reports are suggesting that this version will feature a monstrous 6.2-liter Supercharged V8, which features over 700 horsepower. With such numbers, there is no doubt that Ram will take rivalry with Ford to a completely new level. Interestingly, it looks like that the blue oval company already prepares the answer for the new rebel, as the latest reports are suggesting that the next-generation Raptor will also feature an engine with more than 700 horsepower, borrowed directly from the new Shelby GT500.

How big are 2021 Ram 1500 changes?

The new Rebel TRX is definitely a huge novelty but when it comes to standard models, changes will rather be mild. Of course, we don’t know details at the moment, but it looks like the best we could see are minor updates, just like it is the case with the 2020 model year. The this-year model comes with a new diesel engine, while the rest of the novelties are in terms of new colors and features.

Therefore, the 2021 Ram 1500 color novelties are some of the things we count on. Also, we could see some additional optional packages and a couple of more standard features. Still, keep in mind that the current model already stands pretty good in this aspect, so there are many things to arrive. The area we could see a couple of additions is safety, as the current model comes with a rearview camera as the only standard feature.

2021 Ram 1500 Engines

The 2021 Ram 1500 Hellcat is definitely the highlight of for the next year. Other than that, the engine lineup should remain the same. That means that base models will carry on with a familiar 3.6-liter V6, which is good for about 305 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. This engine also features a decent fuel economy, which goes around 20 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. In higher trims, you can count on a well-known 5.7-liter Hemi V8.

A great thing is that you can choose this engine with or without eTorque mild hybrid system. This feature doesn’t bring any power boost. Both versions are rated at around 395 horsepower and 410 horsepower. Still, the fuel economy is slightly better with the eTorque system. While the standard version returns around 15 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway, mild hybrid adds two more mpg in the city and one more mpg on the highway.

Finally, there is a recently introduced, updated version of the 3.0-liter inline-six turbodiesel. The engine is now rated at 260 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. Mpg ratings are still unavailable.

When it comes to transmission, all models come with a smooth-shifting 8-speed automatic gearbox.
