The Xterra has been out of production for years but demand for traditional body-on-frame SUVs is bigger than it was a couple of years ago. People are realizing all the drawbacks of modern crossover, so models like the 4Runner or Wrangler are becoming more popular these days. The brand-new Bronco is coming back, so we may presume that Nissan wants its piece of cake as well. Therefore, we are getting a lot of reports that suggest such a scenario. Is 2021 Nissan Xterra coming back or not, it is hard to say for sure.

We are still waiting to hear something from the officials, but if we consider that the Frontier is finally about to come redesigned, this comeback sounds logical as well. We presume that more details will be known in the future, once we get more info about the next-generation pickup. Until then, we are relying on rumors, so take the following paragraphs with a reserve.

2021 Nissan Xterra Design

Base design characteristics are something we can predict in a certain way. If we presume that the new would once again have a lot of things in common with the Frontier, we may already know many things about this SUV. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the platform. It looks like the Japanese manufacturer is not willing to develop a completely new platform, but rather to update and upgrade the current F-Alpha. This makes sense, considering that this architecture is very suitable for further modifications and that it already ensures great driving characteristics. All newer models that ride on this platform are characterized by very good driving characteristics. This particularly refers to Navara, which offers an impressive balance between comfort and capabilities. Therefore, we may expect the same from the 2021 Nissan Xterra.

Exterior

When it comes to the exterior design, a lot of things will depend on the final look of the Frontier. Still, we expect changes in terms of 2021 Nissan Xterra dimensions. The new model will probably be bigger and belong to the class of mid-size SUVs. In terms of aesthetics, we count on a typical SUV shape, characteristics by a pretty boxy approach, full of conventional styling solutions. The front end will be the same as on the upcoming Frontier, which probably means similar to the current-generation Navara.

Interior

Once again, we don’t expect that the Japanese manufacturer will experiment too much. The cabin should have a lot of things in common with truck siblings. This particularly refers to the dashboard design and cabin materials, which should be pretty straightforward, without too many unnecessary details and sturdy materials. When it comes to the base cabin layout, some things are still unclear, as the number of seats. We could see either two or three rows. Most likely, two rows will be standard, while the third one will be an option. Another important thing about the new model will be the 2021 Nissan Xterra cargo space. Given the boxy shape, we count not only on strong numbers but also on a tailgate that allows easy loads and unloads of large objects.

2021 Nissan Xterra Engine

Once again, we may expect a lot of similarities with the truck siblings. This would mean a wide engine offer. This would also mean that we won’t see a hybrid version.  Most likely, base models will come with a four-cylinder engine, while higher trim levels are expected to come with six cylinders. The previous model features a good-old 4.0-liter V6 but given the model’s not so great efficiency, we presume that the 2021 Nissan Xterra engine will be something newer, maybe a 3.5-liter unit, or even some turbocharged unit.

Finally, many reports suggest a diesel version as well. Oil burners are becoming more popular these days, so it’s no wonder that we may see one under the hood of this model as well. That would probably be the same 2.3-liter turbo-four from Navara, which is characterized by a pretty amazing efficiency. The 2021 Nissan Xterra diesel would feature a more powerful version of the engine, with around 190 horsepower. In practice, this engine should bring benefits in aspects like fuel economy, towing ratings etc.

2021 Nissan Xterra Release Date and Price

Many reports suggest the new model could arrive already in the next year. However, the fact is that the 2021 Nissan Xterra is still just a rumor. We are still waiting to hear something from the officials, which have been pretty quiet on this matter so far. If it arrives, we presume that base models will go around 30.000 dollars. Competition in the segment is getting tougher these days. There are names like Toyota 4Runner, Jeep Wrangler, but the legendary Ford Bronco is also coming back, while we may see some new models in the near future as well.
