If you look at the current offer in the most competitive segment of the automotive industry, the CX-5 stands out in many ways. Of course, the most obvious is Mazda’s impressive styling, but there are also things like class-leading handling, excellent driving dynamics and upscale interior. We have no doubt that the Japanese manufacturer tends to keep the same state in the future, so it’s no wonder that various 2021 Mazda CX-5 rumors suggest updates for the next year. According to most of them, we are about to see a facelift, which makes a perfect sense, considering that the current generation has been around since 2017.

It’s still early to talk about exact changes, but there is a big chance to see an updated interior. Moreover, we could also see a slight exterior update, though we have to say that the current model still looks impressive. Some sources also suggest novelties under the hood. In any case, the 2021 Mazda CX-5 release date should be scheduled for the last quarter of the year.

2021 Mazda CX-5 Might Get Updated Interior

If you look at the latest reports about this crossover, most of them speculate about the 2021 Mazda CX-5 interior. It looks like we are about to see some updates. The exact details are still unavailable, but it looks like we might see some modifications on the dashboard. The current model already looks great, but a few things would need updates. This particularly refers to the infotainment system, which started to show its age. Therefore, we could see new software, as well as a new screen. Other than that, we probably won’t see more than a couple of new details on the dash.

On the other side, the base cabin layout will remain the same. Therefore, you may count on familiar dimensions. This isn’t the most spacious crossover in the class. The second row is a little bit tighter compared to the competition, as well as the cargo area. Unfortunately, these things won’t change until we see a complete overhaul.

2021 Mazda CX-5 Exterior

The 2021 Mazda CX-5 redesign won’t happen, but we could see a couple of novelties in terms of the styling. The current model might be tighter on the inside compared to most rivals but on the other side, this is arguably the best looking model in the class. Moreover, it is also pretty impressive in terms of the chassis and suspension setup, as it features impressive handling and some of the best driving experiences in the segment.

Therefore, we don’t expect too many 2021 Mazda CX-5 changes for this update. Most likely, we will see a couple of tweaks, probably in at the front. New color options and wheels are also possible. Other than that, things should remain pretty much the same.

Features

On of the aspect of the possible 2021 Mazda CX-5 facelift that can include a lot of novelties is the list of standard equipment. We will definitely see a couple of additions but the current model is already equipped pretty well. So, we don’t expect there will be too many of these updates. The current model comes standard with goodies like a 7-inch touch screen, four speakers, HD Radio, Bluetooth, and two USB ports. Additionally, you can get things like dual-zone automatic climate control, an 8-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, navigation, a six-speaker audio system, a 10-speaker Bose audio system, satellite radio etc.

The list of safety features is pretty impressive and includes things like a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, and low-speed automatic emergency braking. In higher trims, you can also get goodies like a head-up display, traffic sign recognition, a surround-view parking camera system, and front and rear parking sensors.

2021 Mazda CX-5 Engines

The engine choice has always been a strong point of this crossover, so we have no doubt that the 2021 Mazda CX-5 will continue in the same. While some sources suggest a new SkyActive X engine, we are pretty sure that the North American version will stick to the current options. This means that base models will come with a familiar 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 187 horsepower.

While this engine seems more than decent for most drivers, those who prefer something peppier can choose a turbocharged version, which delivers 227 horsepower (250 with premium fuel). Finally, there is a diesel version with 168 horsepower, which is a perfect choice for those who want to save some money on fuel.  All three engines come paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Release Date and Price

We presume that the new version will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year. When it comes to the 2021 Mazda CX-5 price, we don’t expect it will be much different compared to the current model, which starts slightly above 25.000 dollars.
