It may not be the most popular model in the segment, but this pickup truck is vastly important for a company like Mazda. Therefore, the Japanese manufacturer has big plans for the new model, which is about to come in the near future, as the 2021 Mazda BT-50. The most intriguing is that we are about to see some pretty significant changes, bigger than you would probably expect from a typical redesign.

The original version of this pickup truck came in 2006. So far, we have seen two generations of it and the current, second-generation model has been around since 2011. Both generations were in a close relationship with Ford Ranger. Mechanics are pretty much identical, including engines, while Mazda came with its own styling.

However, this cooperation has ended and Mazda now has another partner, the Japanese manufacturer Isuzu. This is a highly renowned truck maker, so there is no doubt that the new Mazda BT-50 will be a highly capable machine.

There is no doubt that this cooperation with Isuzu can bring only benefits and that the Mazda BT-50 2021 model will be a great workhorse. According to the latest reports, the two models will be highly related. Moreover, both trucks will be produced in Isuzu’s factories and will be coming out of the same factory lines. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the styling.

Most sources suggest that the overall shape will be the same. We have already seen the new D-Max and it looks really amazing. It looks greats, especially when compared with the previous-generation model. Mazda will make further modifications and we presume the only part of the truck that will get changes will be the front. Expect it will follow the brand’s new design language in a pretty large portion.

Interior

Another thing that comes to mind is how the new 2021 Mazda BT-50 will look on the inside. The new Isuzu D-Max has been presented and one of the best things it has brought is the new cabin, which looks simply amazing. We presume there was a little bit of Mazda influence in this process, so the BT-50 will probably come with the same cabin look. That is definitely a great thing, considering that the new D-Max features arguably the best-looking cabin in the class, which is full of hi-quality materials, features attractive dashboard design and also comes with a full load of tech features. Also, it comes with a large touchscreen that dominates the center stack and which also features smartphone goodies like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Still, we presume that Mazda will use its own software in this case.

2021 Mazda BT-50 Engines

When it comes to the powertrain, we presume that the 2021 Mazda BT-50 will use the same diesel engine as the new Isuzu D-Max. The truck maker has recently presented a new 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine, which is good for about 175 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque. It may not be the most powerful engine in the class, but the new D-Max can tow more than 3.5 tons (7.700 pounds), which is a pretty respectable number, on par with Hilux, Chevy Colorado and similar trucks.

Some reports also suggest that Mazda may try its luck in North America. If this happens, we presume that the new truck would feature different powertrain. Of course, the first engine that comes to mind is Mazda’s familiar 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, probably a turbocharged version that is good for about 250 horsepower. More details should be known in the near future.

2021 Mazda BT-50 Release Date and Price

The 2021 Mazda BT-50 is expected to debut in the second half of the year. Keep in mind that it may come to certain markets a little bit later. When it comes to the price, we presume that base models will go around 25.000 dollars.

Mazda Boss Edition

While we are waiting for the next-generation model, Mazda has launched a new version of the current generation, called Boss. This model comes with various exclusive details, which are mostly there to make this truck look more off-road capable. The model comes exclusively in white color, but it is full of black details in contrast. In terms of mechanics, things are pretty familiar.
