The current generation of the luxury mid-size SUV may seem too old by today’s industry standards, but still has a lot of things to offer. That’s the main reason why we believe that the 2021 Lexus GX 460 will come without any notable change. The recent update has brought a couple of novelties, starting from a revised grille and lots of new standard features, so we have no doubt that the current generation is ready to compete on the market for some more time.

The thing with this SUV is that it is one of the kind in its segment. While the market is overflowed with crossovers, this one is a genuine BoF SUV, which offers exceptional off-road performances and unparalleled reliability ratings in the class. Those may be the main reasons for the model’s growing popularity in the past few years, despite the age. The 2021 Lexus GX release date is expected to be scheduled for the last quarter of the year.

2021 Lexus GX Design

In terms of base design characteristics, we definitely don’t expect to see any particular change. The current generation is expected to remain in the offer for another year or two, so don’t count on 2021 Lexus GX460 redesign, no matter what rumors say. Simply, the company is currently busy with the next generations of Tundra and Land Cruiser, while the rest of the BoF is still waiting for the redesign.

Therefore, count on the same design, which is essentially the same as on the initial model that case way back in 2009. Of course, there have been some updates through these years, including a major one in 2013. The second one came last year, when we saw the newest, even more, angular version of the spindle grille, along with new LED headlamps. Therefore, the best we could see for the next year could be an addition of new color options.

Interior

The 2021 Lexus GX interior will also carry on in the same way. That’s not bad at all, although there are some weak points in this cabin. From an aesthetical standpoint, the dashboard definitely shows signs of aging. However, it features mostly classical design solutions, so the overall look will remain attractive for a long time, we have no doubt. On the other side, the overall build quality is impressive, something you would definitely expect to see from a Lexus SUV.

2021 Lexus GX Interior

The biggest drawback of this SUV goes to the interior space. While the first rows is pretty spacious and comfortable, that’s not the case with the second and third row. While the second row can comfortably accommodate adults on shorter trips, the third row is extremely cramped and it’s best to be left for kids.

Logically, the cargo area is also pretty small, especially behind the third row, where you can count on just 11.6 cubic feet. Things are much better with the third row down, when you get a quite decent volume of 46.7 cubic feet.

Features

When it comes to standard equipment, the new Lexus GX 2021 will carry on in the same way, which is not a bad thing at all. The current model stands pretty well in this aspect. For example, you may count on a modern and easy-to-use infotainment system and an 8-inch touchscreen. The list of standard equipment also includes Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, Siri Eyes Free, HD Radio, a nine-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, and two USB ports. Additionally, you can get navigation, a 17-speaker Mark Levinson premium audio system, a dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system etc.

When it comes to safety features, this SUV really shines. It comes standard with a rearview camera, lane departure warning, pedestrian detection, automatic high-beam headlights, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert.

2021 Lexus GX Engine

When it comes to the powertrain, the 2021 Lexus GX will carry one with a familiar 4.6-liter V8 unit, which is good for about 301 horsepower. It comes in pair with a smooth 6-speed automatic transmission. The overall performances are more than okay, though the fuel economy isn’t something that could be called okay. Moreover, this is one of the thirstiest models in the class, which returns around 15 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway.  On the other side, you may count on exceptional reliability, probably the highest in the class. According to J.D. Power, this SUV gets 4.5 reliability rating, which is excellent.
