2021 GMC Envoy comeback

Chevy Blazer is back. Will the GMC do the same with the Envoy? We are trying to figure that out. The 2021 GMC Envoy would take the position in the mid-size class, between Acadia and Terrain. Compared to the first one, an old nameplate wouldn’t offer a third row. Still, there are a lot of questions about this model. General Motors is already offering too many twins and similar models. On the other hand, multiplicity can never be a bad thing.

GMC is Chevy’s sibling with slightly more luxurious equipment. Mechanically, two brands are sharing engines, so buyers are there to pick a styling that suits them best. Still, the GMC brand is still very popular. So, putting a different badge on the Chevy Blazer is the most likely option. On the other hand, the 2021 GMC Envoy might become the off-road vehicle that will face the competition of Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco.

Another wave of rumors is caused by recent announcements about electrification. With the return of the GMC Hummer as an electric truck, we are wondering what the next moves for General Motors are. Cadillac Lyriq should be a luxury EV, while Chevy Bolt EUV is a compact crossover. Envoy could be the first all-electric SUV, a rival to Ford Mach E.

2021 GMC Envoy Specs, EV

The SUV had two generations and lasted for ten seasons. Back at the beginning of the new millennium, Envoy was getting power from a V8 engine. A 5.3-liter unit is still used by GM, but it is not likely to see it for the 2021 GMC Envoy. Instead, the carmaker should go with a V6, and the best option is a 3.6-liter V6. Also, like its siblings, the SUV will definitely downgrade the offer with a turbo-four mill. Such a powerplant will save some fuel and there is a 2.0-liter displacement already available. But, the 2021 Envoy might offer something new.

General Motors still lacks a lot of hybrid SUVs. Rivals are already present in this market, while GM is still developing their systems. Well, the gap between the biggest US carmakers is bigger and Ford is taking advantage of the situation. But, GMC is already setting up some challenges in the truck segment. While the Blue Oval company is yet to unveil the concept, the Hummer pickup is available for pre-order. Also, GM launched the new campaign, “Our electric future is now”. So, not only Hummer but half a dozen of other vehicles, mostly SUVs and crossovers, will get an all-electric configuration. We believe the 2021 GMC Envoy is one of them.

There is time for big decisions for General Motors. The Envoy SUV was pretty popular at its peak and the company might use an old nameplate to get a kick-start. It won’t be the first time for GM to do so. We already mentioned Chevy Blazer’s comeback, as well as the Hummer, although in a different form. Other companies are also bringing back old vehicles, and we see Honda Passport, Toyota Venza, Jeep Gladiator, etc.

Expectations

There is a room in the GMC lineup for a new member. Envoy is only one of the possibilities. Most likely, we would say. Still, there are no official details and hints about the comeback, production, release date schedule… So, we must be patient and try to find out all things related to the 2021 GMC Envoy through unofficial channels and inside sources.

The fan base of the GMC brand is wide. Some buyers will rather purchase any vehicle with this badge rather than any other. Now, with so much room in the squad and the explosion of the crossover and SUV popularity, the 2021 GMC Envoy is more likely than ever. By only rebadging the Chevy Blazer, General Motors would definitely draw the interest of buyers.

Another important detail in the whole story is the availability of luxury options. The 2021 GMC Envoy Denali is going to be one of the trim levels, that is for sure. Leather interior, unique exterior styling, and advanced infotainment and safety features are just some of the accessories that will make this version quite different.

On the other hand, if the Envoy is becoming an EV, we won’t see its production before 2023. The first electric units will be there after the 2022 GMC Hummer. Nevertheless, fans won’t wait as long as for the electric truck. Prices are totally unpredictable. Blazer will start under $29,000 and the GMC Envoy could go over $30k. Denali and EV will definitely put some value to the SUV, probably being priced over $40,000.
