The current generation of this mid-size crossover has been around for almost six years and considering that the competition is getting stronger every year, the 2021 Ford Edge redesign is one of the things that come to our mind first. At this point, there is still no official confirmation, but many experts count on a complete overhaul in the near future. Naturally, we count on a lot of novelties, as the current generation seems a little bit uninspiring in several aspects. This particularly refers to ride quality, and that is something where a crossover like this needs to be perfect.
Of course, the redesign would bring novelties and improvements in other aspects as well. We count on a new styling, new interior design and some interesting novelties under the hood. According to rumors, the new model could hit the market pretty soon, by the end of the year or sometime in 2021.
2021 Ford Edge Redesign
Of course, the 2021 Ford Edge redesign is about to bring a lot of novelties. At this point, it is still early to talk about details, but there are some things that come to our minds when it comes to this overhaul. Of course, the first of them is the platform. The current model rides on a familiar CD4 platform, which is generally still okay, but not exactly what you would expect from a crossover that tends to be rather sporty than family-friendly.
Therefore, we are pretty sure that the new Ford Edge 2021 will switch to the CD6 platform, just like the Explorer did recently. This means a lot of things and, naturally, the first that comes to mind is the RWD layout, which is something that would make the Edge a significantly better vehicle to drive.
2021 Ford Edge Exterior
Better performances are something we expect to see from the new model, but we also count on the new exterior design. At this point, it is hard to say whether the Edge is about to get bigger or not. The current model is good for about 112.2 inches in wheelbase, which seems okay for a mid-size two-row crossover. Also, keep in mind that there is a bigger Explorer in the game, so there is no need for notable enlargements in our opinion.
The 2021 Ford Edge may keep a similar size, but we are definitely about to see a new styling. At this point, it is hard to talk about details, but we are pretty sure that the new aesthetics will be pretty close to what we’ve seen in the recently-redesigned Explorer. In practice, this means mostly evolutionary changes and a lot of resemblance with the current, post-facelifted version.
The current model features a relatively decent cabin design. Still, there are several areas that feature hard plastics and generally, most rivals feel more upscale. That’s the reason why we expect to see notable improvements in this aspect.
On the other side, this crossover has never lacked interior space, so we have no doubt that the new model will carry on in the same way. This means two spacious rows of seats, with plenty of legroom. Still, we would definitely like to see better front seats this time.
When it comes to the cargo area, we also don’t have any complaints. Moreover, the current model features the biggest cargo area among two-row crossover, as you may count on about 39 cubic feet behind the second row and more than 73 cubic feet of the overall cargo space. The new 2021 Ford Edge should come with similar numbers.
2021 Ford Edge Engines
The current model is available in two powertrain options and there is a big chance to see both of them in the new generation as well. Of course, we would probably see some power boost, but both engines are already pretty capable. The base model comes with a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which is good for about 250 horsepower. On the other side, the 2021 Ford Edge ST may keep the same 2.7-liter V6, also with a power boost, but we may see a new 3.0-liter unit under the hood as well.
The 2021 Ford Edge Hybrid is another thing we expect to see in the offer. We count on the same systems you can find in the Explorer. This means a system based on a 3.3-liter V6 engine, which is good for about 318 horsepower. We may even see a plug-in hybrid version, which comes with the impressive max output of 450 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque.
Release Date and Price
The 2021 Ford Edge may arrive by the end of the year, but 2021 looks a little bit more likely at the moment. When it comes to the price, base models will probably go around 30.000 dollars.
