Rumors about the Chrysler SUV have been circulating around for years but we haven’t seen such a model from this brand yet. Once again, the same type of reports can be found in many places. This time, the expected model also has a name, as most sources suggest the new model would be called 2021 Chrysler Aspen. This is a quite familiar nameplate among car enthusiasts and it was already in use for an SUV before. Therefore, it seems like a perfect match for a vehicle of this type.
Unfortunately, these rumors and reports don’t tell much about design characteristics. Therefore, we can only speculate about the new model, whether it’s about styling, interior design, or powertrain. In any case, we believe that there are two possible scenarios for the 2021 Chrysler Aspen and we will start with them in a minute. Meanwhile, we will remind you to take the following paragraphs with a big reserve.
Pacifica-Based SUV, Why Not?
This is the first scenario that comes to our mind, especially if we consider that the popular minivan has been updated just recently and that it gets AWD option, among other updates. Moreover, the new minivan gets new styling, which is more crossover-like than before. All this makes Pacifica a perfect 2021 Chrysler Aspen overture in our minds.
Of course, the new crossover would ride on the same, Compact US wide platform. As we expect from 2021 Chrysler Aspen to be a spacious three-row crossover, Pacifica’s 121.6 inches in wheelbase sound amazing, as this is more than enough to compete with premium full-size crossovers, as well as with full-size body-on-frame SUVs.
2021 Chrysler Aspen Could Ride On Giorgio!?
The other possibility is to see 2021 Chrysler Aspen sharing a lot of things with Grand Cherokee. As you may know, the famous SUV will get a full redesign next year and it will ride on the Giorgio platform. This architecture, designed by Alfa Romeo engineers, would bring all kinds of benefits, particularly in terms of ride quality, as crossovers like Stelvio are characterized by excellent handling and spectacular driving experience.
Of course, the Aspen would be significantly bigger, just like Grand Cherokee. But we definitely count on plenty of athleticism.
The recent Pacifica update showed us the direction of new Chrysler models. That should be a new design language of the brand, which hasn’t released a new model for a quite long time. We presume that the 2021 Chrysler Aspen would feature similar front end, while the rest of the body would come in a typical SUV manner. This would mean a typical wagon-like body, though we don’t expect that this model would be as bold and boxy as Grand Cherokee, for example. A little bit sleeker profile, maybe also a lower ground clearance, those are the things we expect from 2021 Chrysler Aspen.
2021 Chrysler Aspen Interior
When it comes to the interior design, the only thing we could say at this point is that the 2021 Chrysler Aspen would be a pretty spacious crossover. With such a long wheelbase, we expect all three rows of seats to be comfortable and generous in terms of legroom. The cargo area should also be very generous, on par with class leaders.
When it comes to the overall layout, we presume that the company would want a crossover that looks enough upscale to compete in the premium segment. Of course, we don’t expect the level of quality that is typical for German premium brands, but the cabin should be opulent enough to be competitive with models from brands like Buick, Cadillac, Infiniti etc.
2021 Chrysler Aspen Engines
When it comes to the powertrain, things seem pretty clear, at least when it comes to the more basic version. We definitely expect to see a well-known 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 unit in the offer. Of course, that wouldn’t be the only engine in the offer, and the actual lineup would depend a lot on the platform. One of the possibilities is to see Pacifica’s PHEV powertrain, while a 2.0-liter turbo-four also seems possible.
If the new crossover is about to feature the RWD layout, we could also see some hi-performance version, with some of the well-known HEMI V8 units. Of course, that mostly refers to the 5.7-liter engine, while bigger units don’t seem so likely at the moment.
2021 Chrysler Aspen Release Date and Price
Although Chrysler is definitely working on a new SUV, we still don’t know the details and the 2021 Chrysler Aspen is definitely nothing more than a rumor. Therefore, take the previous paragraphs with a reserve, despite the numerous reports that can be found on the network. If the new model arrives, that would probably happen in the next year, while we definitely won’t speculate about the price.
