Since the X7 is out there, we see the 2021 BMW X8 happening more likely. There are a few things fans are sure about the upcoming SUV. First of all, they expect it with coupe styling. It will be based on the new X7 full-size luxury SUV. Finally, the X8M will top the class with exceptional outputs and features. The bad thing is the price. A smaller X6 is really pricey, and the high-end models are deep into the 6-digit cost realm. Do not expect a discount for a bigger vehicle.
The SUV will share many things with the X7. We are sure the drivetrains and trim levels are the same. Furthermore, the 2021 BMW X8 M is going to offer an additional option – the Competition package.
The German carmaker is not making the X8 official yet. But, trusted sources and experts are confirming the development. Some of them expected their arrival even in 2021. It is not so likely that the vehicle will enter production. However, it won’t take too much time from concept to the dealerships. Stay tuned, we will alert you with every update coming from BMW.
What Will 2021 BMW X8 Look Like?
The X4 is a coupe version of X3, while the X6 uses the same architecture as the X5, but adds a more aggressive appearance with the sloped roofline. So, it is not hard to guess that the 2021 BMW X8 will be a coupe X7. The full-size SUV debuted recently. Nevertheless, the upcoming vehicle will find the inspiration on its sibling, but it won’t be all the same. For example, we could see a larger grille, previewed on the most recent spy photos of X5.
On the other hand, the X8 won’t bring too many new things. Well, it will be the X7 with a coupe design. The size of the SUV will increase visibility at the back, and passengers should have more room than in X6. Rear fenders and spoilers will make the tail very aggressive. The special tailgate is also on the way, sources are reporting.
Interior
There are no doubts that the interior will carry over the same styling we can find on the X7, with a few modifications. First of all, the 2021 BMW X8 is not going to be a seven-seater. The coupe-SUV will offer only two rows of seats, that is for sure. But, compared to a similar vehicle, BMW X6, the full-size model will provide more headroom. Extra cargo space is also expected, but do not expect some radical improvements. If you need room for stuff, this is not going to be the right SUV. You should pick some of the models with the classic SUV design.
One of the things we expect to see is a new infotainment system. BMW needs to catch up with its archrivals. Mercedes impressed with their MBUX, while the Audi MMI is also among the most advanced systems in the market. The iDrive 7.0 version made a big step, but it needs even more improvements.
BMW is also working on the autonomous drive. According to announcements from 2019, the company should bring Level 4 of self-driving features pretty soon. A few other carmakers intend to do the same, including Volvo and Nissan.

Engines, Specs, M Model
Under the bonnet of the 2021 BMW X8 are going to be the same units as in the X7. Some sources claim the base version might skip a six-cylinder motor. So, a 4.4-liter V8 takes the position. A twin-turbo system is going to deliver more than 450 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. The fuel economy is not so impressive, but we don’t expect too much from such a high output. An 8-speed automatic transmission sends power to all wheels like we are used to with most BMW SUVs. It is a popular xDrive. The M50i setup squeezes nearly 100 hp more from the same drivetrain and increases the torque level to 550 lb-ft.
The most powerful edition will come with the M package. Ultimate upgrades include a special treatment that will make this version produce more torque and power. Smaller siblings can reach 600 hp or even 615 with the Competition bundle. The 2021 BMW X8 should be faster than the X7. It is lighter and more aerodynamic, thanks to the unique design. Nevertheless, we won’t know precise times until the SUV finishes all the tests and becomes official.
When Will 2021 BMW X8 Come Out?
The vehicle is about to debut soon, while the production is starting in mid- or late-2021. The X8 is coming as the concept first and we might see the first units on sale in 2022. The SUV is becoming the most expensive model in the family. The base MSRP will be around $80,000, while the heavily-loaded X8M will be over $130,000. We expect more updates, and if the SUV gets some kind of an electric drivetrain, the price will definitely jump even higher.
