The current generation of the famous luxury crossover has been redesigned recently but that doesn’t mean we’re done with interesting novelties. After the initial launch, the second production year will bring hi-performance M-badged version. The third production year will also bring interesting novelties under the hood, as well are about to see a new hybrid version, under the 2021 BMW X5 xDrive45e name. The new powertrain will come with significant improvements over the current hybrid system in all aspects. It will be more powerful, more efficient and also features longer electric-only range.
Other than a new powertrain, we don’t expect too many changes for the third production year. The overall layout will remain pretty much the same, as well as the list of standard features, though a couple of novelties are possible. In any case, we don’t expect to see this model in showrooms before the last quarter of the next year.
2021 BMW X5 Design
In terms of base design characteristics, the fourth generation of the popular mid-size luxury SUV will remain the same. We are about to see the same overall design, which is based on the company’s new CLAR platform, which brings improvements in driving dynamics, efficiency, handling and much more.
Visually, the new model continued the evolution of the company’s familiar design language, which is all about the famous kidney grille, which became bolder and more angular. Considering the conventional aesthetical approach, we don’t expect any notable styling change in the following years. Still, don’t be surprised if you see a couple of new color options in the offer.
Interior
When it comes to the interior design, we definitely won’t see any notable change for the next year. The 2021 BMW X5 interior will continue with standard two rows, while the third one will be optional. In terms of the legroom and overall interior space, this crossover is pretty typical for the class. The first row offers excellent comfort, while the second row is pretty comfortable as well.
On the other side, the third row is pretty tight and definitely isn’t designed for adults. The cargo area is quite decent, as you can count on about 34 cubic feet behind the second row. The overall capacity goes up to 72 cubic feet.
When it comes to the overall interior quality, you will find mixed reviews. Materials are mostly soft and fine, but rivals like Audi Q7 and Mercedes-Benz GLE are far more stylish and opulent.
2021 BMW X5 Hybrid
The 2021 BMW X5 Hybrid is definitely the most anticipated thing for the next year. The Bavarian carmaker is about to introduce a completely new system, which will be based on an inline-six gasoline engine, instead of the turbo-four that characterized the previous generation. The new engine delivers around 285 horsepower and a new electric motor is good for more than 110 hp.
All in all, the combined output will go up to 395 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque. The system will be paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to all wheels. Such configuration will ensure pretty respectable performances, as the new model should be able to reach 60 in about 5.5 seconds.
Besides more power and better overall performances, the 2021 BMW X5 xDrive45e will also feature better fuel economy and longer electric-only range, which will now go around 50 miles.
2021 BMW X5 Engines
Other than a new hybrid powertrain, we are about to see familiar engine options in the offer. Base models will carry one with a familiar turbo inline-six, which is good for about 335 horsepower. Of course, a larger 4.4-liter V8 will be in the offer as well. This one is good for 456 horsepower. Keep in mind that the M version will come soon. Latest reports suggest plenty of power and various additional upgrades, so the 2021 BMW X5M shouldn’t feature any notable changes.
Features
In terms of standard equipment, we could see a couple of additions. Still, most of the things will remain unchanged. Therefore, base 2021 BMW X5 models are expected to come standard with tech goodies like 12.3-inch touch screen, a 10-speaker hi-fi audio system, navigation, Bluetooth, three USB ports, Apple CarPlay etc. Higher trims will also include quad-zone automatic climate control, wireless device charging, satellite radio, Wi-Fi hotspot, premium audio system etc.
When it comes to safety, all models will come standard with adaptive cruise control, a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring etc. Additionally, you can also get things like head-up display, night vision, Evasion Assistant, a surround-view camera, and parallel and perpendicular park assist.
2021 BMW X5 Release Date and Price
We presume that the 2021 BMW X5 release date will be scheduled for the end of next year. The price should remain pretty much the same, which means that base models would go around 61.000 dollars. On the other side, the new hybrid version will probably go around 75.000 dollars.
