The world of electric cars is getting bigger every year and it’s time for conventional carmakers to join the race as well. The Bavarian carmaker already has a lot of experience with electrification and it feels it’s time for an all-electric crossover. That’s not a surprise, considering that crossovers are the most popular segment in the industry today.

The company has big expectations from it, but the interesting thing about it is that the company doesn’t hide details about it at all. Moreover, we already know a lot about the upcoming model, which is expected to hit the market by the end of the year. It is in the advanced stage of testing and the mule has been spotted several times already. From what we can see, the new electric crossover will feature similar size to mid-size SUVs like X5 and X6, though it looks like the company plans a little bit different aesthetical approach. Also, the company promises pretty impressive numbers when it comes to the max range.

At this point, we know some of the most basic things about the 2021 BMW iNext SUV. First of all, this should be a mid-size crossover, with the size similar to models like X5 and X6. Also, we have no doubt that the new model will take a lot of inspiration from the Vision iNext Concept, which was presented a couple of years ago. That crossover was characterized by a pretty futuristic aesthetical approach. Huge 24-inch wheels were some of the biggest highlights of the concept, as well as loads of sharp lines and bold grille.

We presume that some of these things will find a place in the production model, though with not so accentuated futuristic details. Also, the 2021 BMW iNext may adopt some details from the company’s current lineup, from internal-combustion powered models such as new X7.

Interior

Despite the new model is still in a testing phase and wears a camouflage, we already know a lot of details about the interior design. Spy photographers managed to take shots of the new dashboard, and there are some pretty interesting things to see. The dashboard will be highlighted by a pretty unconventional steering wheel and infotainment screen. Moreover, we can hear some stories about the steering wheel, which will be fitted with optical fibers which can inform the driver when autonomous driving modes are active and similar things. Also, the company claims such wheel design will provide better steering experience.

As we already mentioned, this should be a mid-size crossover, similar in size to X5 and X6 models. Therefore, we may expect a similar amount of legroom as well. Also, the 2021 BMW iNext should feature a bit of a sloping roof, which may affect the amount of headroom in the second row.

While so many details about the new 2021 BMW iNext design are already known, we are still waiting for the exact numbers in terms of power. Most likely, the new model will come with a dual-electric motor setup, with all-wheel drive, but we won’t exclude the possibility to see various output versions either. On the other side, we are pretty sure that the new model will come with a 120-kWh battery pack, which promises pretty high numbers in terms of the max range. Some reports suggest a max range of more than 360 miles, but we are pretty sure that the numbers will be lower in reality.

2021 BMW iNext Release Date

We are still waiting to hear something from the officials about the 2021 BMW iNext release date, but some reports suggest the new model could arrive by the end of the year. There is no doubt that the biggest rival will be the new Audi e-tron, which debuted last year.
