Mar 25, 2020

The forthcoming 2021 Acura RDX will be a perfect combination of a mid-size luxury of crossover and affordable price. At the same time, the mid-cycle refreshment delivers authentic appearance and modern design. Also, the interior provides a good amount of premium materials and enough room for every passenger.

The 2021 RDX will include a high-performance Type S version as well. However, the crossover needs a new engine. The competition comes with more powerful units, while the Acura’s crossover lags. Another thing that could be improved is the available equipment. In other words, most of the premium features are reserved strictly for specific packages.

2021 Acura RDX Mid-Cycle Refreshment

The upcoming 2021 Acura RDX brings significant changes to the design, as part of the mid-cycle refreshment. These changes will improve the overall appearance of the crossover, and add a more sporty look to the exterior.

Moreover, the unique details will help the RDX to build a more recognizable style. The brand-new model will be part of the third generation, that was introduced back in 2018. Therefore, the Japanese automaker won’t go for a complete overhaul. The RDX will stay fresh and good-looking for at least two or three years.

For the 2021MY we’ll see modified C-shape taillights and a more prominent pentagon grille. But, the most important change is the dimensions of the upcoming model. The new RDX will be approximately 2.3-inches longer than the previous version. Also, the body will be heavier around 50 pounds. As a result, the crossover will provide better stability and handling.

Interior Updates

2021 Acura RDX brings probably the best cabin in the whole segment. The interior is spacious, with generous legroom, even in the second row. Moreover, the infotainment is upgraded with new features that will assist the driver and ease the controlling of the important features during the drive. Also, the system updates bring a bundle of performance improvements.

The third-generation of RDX offers the True Touchpad home screen system. But, the downside of this model could be that the additional equipment. Well, the loading of additional equipment. So, if you want let’s say a 360-degree camera you’ll have to purchase the entire Advanced Package.

Of course, you can go trim higher and get those specific features as standard. But, higher trim means a higher price, right? At least the AcuraWatch safety suite will be standard across all trims.

Engine Specs

Under the hood of 2021 Acura RDX, things will stay the same. The Japanese crossover comes with only one engine option. Indeed, not an attractive offer for potential customers. The available mill is 2.0-liter, which had some technical issues in the past.

No doubt, this unit lacks power as well. The total output is 272 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque, which puts RDX far behind the competition. The drivetrain id linked to a 10-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to the standard front-wheel-drive.

2021 Acura RDX Type S

The most exclusive version of 2021 Acura RDX will be the Type S model. Well, there’s the A-Spec also, but the Type S is something special. The high-performance crossover adds more appealing exterior design and unique features. Moreover, this version comes with outstanding aerodynamics and lowered ride height.

The sporty model will include mechanical upgrades as well. As a result, the overall performance will be improved. On top of that, the handling will be refined as well, alongside the suspension and brakes. However, the most important upgrade for the Type S is the new twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 engine.

Still, the official specs for this unit are unknown at the moment. We will come back and edit this review when Acura reveals some info regarding the power and fuel economy.

2021 Acura RDX Release Date and Price

One of the main advantages of the arriving 2021 RDX will be the price. The luxury compact crossover class is full of fancy models such as the Audi Q5 or Mercedes-Benz GLC. Well, luxury often comes with a price. On the other hand, the Japanese crossover represents a perfect alternative.

The starting price of the new model will be around $39,000. Of course, the RDX can’t compete in certain areas with Audi or Mercedes. But, it’s still an outstanding vehicle, and more affordable than the abovementioned European crossovers. The refreshed RDX will be released in the last quarter of the year.
