2020 Subaru Forester Gets More Safety Features

After the last-year redesign, the 2020 Subaru Forester is about to remain largely the same. The popular compact crossover has been a household name in the segment for decades. Practical design, standard all-wheel drive, composed handling and comfortable ride have always been some of its strongest points. Also, this model comes with an impressive list of safety features, which will be even more expanded in the next year. We are about to see new standard safety features and a couple of more tweaks for the second production year. Still, the core of the car will remain untouched.

The thing that bothers most of you is the engine. While we are waiting for anything about the new turbo options, the company remains silent. Therefore, the 2020 Subaru Forester will most likely carry on with just one engine in the offer. Still, we won’t completely exclude the possibility to see additions during the next year.

2020 Subaru Forester changes

What’s new for the 2020 Subaru Forester?

When it comes to 2020 Subaru Forester changes, the most important thing we should mention are new safety systems. The Japanese carmaker adds systems like Lane Centering function and new Lane Departure Prevention to the list of standard equipment.  Another thing we should mention is that the new standard feature is Rear Seat Reminder. Finally, there are some minor styling tweaks like new LED plate lights and similar things. When it comes to the new engine option, we are still waiting to hear something from the officials.

2020 Subaru Forester Design

When it comes to the exterior design, the 2020 Subaru Forester will remain untouched. This carmaker practices production cycles of about five years, while mid-cycle updates are reserved for the fourth production year. Considering that this will be the second production year, it seems logical that the list of novelties will be relatively short. The compact crossover received a complete overhaul recently and although the styling may look familiar, it features a completely new design. The new model rides on Subaru’s new modular platform, which improved riding characteristics, as well as efficiency. Also, the new model is slightly bigger, with two more inches in wheelbase. All in all, it was hard to expect anything important for the next year.

Interior

This crossover has always been known for excellent functionality and practicality in terms of the interior design. The new model goes even further and delivers plenty of quality and style as well. The new cabin is full of quality materials, while higher trims are pretty much on par with premium crossovers.

Of course, functionality remains the strongest point of this model. The 2020 Subaru Forester will continue with a spacious and practical interior, full of small storage compartments. Also, the cargo area is pretty spacious. You can count on about 35.5 pound-feet behind the rear seats and more than 76 cubic feet of overall cargo space. These are above-average numbers for the class.

Features

As we already mentioned, there is a couple of new safety features to come for the next year. Other than that, we expect that things will remain pretty much the same. Therefore, base models should carry on with things like cloth upholstery, 6.5-inch touch screen, two USB ports, Bluetooth, a four-speaker sound system, satellite radio, HD Radio, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, etc. In higher trims, you can also get leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, leather-wrapped and heated steering wheel, Wi-Fi hot spot, a nine-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and a larger 8-inch touch screen with a built-in navigation.

When it comes to safety, Lane Centering function and new Lane Departure Prevention are the biggest novelties. Other than these, the 2020 Subaru Forester will come standard with a pre-collision braking system, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane change assist, reverse automatic braking, adaptive headlights, and Subaru’s new DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation system are also available.

Will The 2020 Subaru Forester Have a Turbo?

While we are all eagerly waiting for a new turbo option, it looks like that the 2020 Subaru Forester will rather continue with just one engine in the offer. It is a familiar 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers around 182 horsepower and comes in pair with a CVT gearbox. It’s not the fastest combination around but a great benefit is standard all-wheel drive, as well as a pretty good fuel economy. This crossover returns around 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway, which are pretty good numbers for the class and pretty impressive numbers if we consider the AWD layout.

When Will 2020 Subaru Forester Be Available?

We expect to see the new model sometime late in the year. When it comes to the 2020 Subaru Forester base model price, the company has already announced it will be for about $200 higher. So, the starting price will go around 24.500 dollars.
