The grille is now 30-percent larger than the previous model. Active shutters are integrated into the grille, and a lower air dam is placed below the bumper. This way, the truck is more aerodynamic. Moreover, the new model is lighter, and the aerodynamics improvement and new engine options will also boost the fuel economy. The new model is 143 pounds lighter, and the hood is now made of aluminum. Just this change will reduce the weight by 20 pounds. The redesigned bumper cut off 11 pounds as well.

The new powertrain is around 60 pounds lighter because aluminum parts were replaced for non-structural zones of the engine. The body panels will stay the same as on the previous model, and the dual-rear-wheel-axle option will be available as well. The Ram 3500 will be available in three versions: Regular Cab, Crew Cab, and Mega Cab. Each one of these versions brings something special for the customers. The 4-door Mega Cab, for example, offers abundant rear-seat room. Furthermore, depending on the cab you choose, you can opt for a 6-foot 4-inch or 8-foot bed. The Ram 3500 Crew Cab model with an 8-foot bed is almost 22 feet long, you must think of that when it comes to parking options and space.

Under the hood of 2020 Ram 3500, the main star is new turbocharged, high-output engine developed with Cummins. This inline 6-cylinder unit can produce 400 horsepower at 2,800 rpm and 1,000 lb-ft of torque at 1,800 rpm. From the company says that this may be the first heavy-duty ever to break the 1,000 pound-feet sound barrier. To compare, Ford’s turbocharged 6.7-liter V8 engine produces 450 hp and 935 lb-ft of torque at 1,800 rpm.

Upcoming Ram 3500 will also offer a Cummins turbocharged 6.7-liter inline-six diesel powertrain. This unit is capable of producing 370 hp at 2,800 rpm and 850 lb-ft of torque at 1,700 rpm. A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard with these two diesel engines. However, if you don’t want a diesel unit, the standard powertrain is a gasoline 6.4-liter Hemi V8. This drivetrain delivers 410 hp at 5,600 rpm and 429 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. The Hemi V8 engine is connected to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The 2020 Ram 3500 is set to tow up to 35,100 pounds and the payload capacity is 7,680 pounds.

For the famous Detroit Three, light-duty and heavy-duty pickups are major profit markets. These vehicles are so popular and have faithful customers worldwide, that even the $100,000 price tag won’t turn them off. From the Fiat Chrysler headquarters, there’s no news regarding the price of the new 2020 Ram 3500. However, the company admits that when it comes to options, the price limit is very questionable.

Current Ram 3500 comes with the starting price of around $33,100 for the base model. Still, the Mega Cab model starts at an exalted $65,700.The main competitors of this model surely will be the Chevrolet Silverado and Ford Super Duty. Release date is still unknown, but the reports from Michigan tell us that new Ram 3500 will go on sale by the end of the following year.
