2020 Mitsubishi Pajero Specs, Changes, Redesign
It’s not hard to agree that the current Pajero is just a shadow of the famous SUV that has been among segment leaders for decades. The current generation has been introduced almost 15 years ago and it is still in production. In the past, this large SUV has been available all around the world. These days, you can find it only in China. We saw a mild update last year, which indicates that the current version will carry on for a little bit more time, including the 2020 Mitsubishi Pajero model. After that, no one knows what will happen with the nameplate. While some reports suggest discontinuation, others are speculation about the redesign and joint forces with Nissan. In any case, the next year won’t bring anything special to us.
2020 Mitsubishi Pajero Design
Not too many things changed during all these years of production. The current generation was introduced in 2006 and the overall design is largely the same even these days. Therefore, we believe that the 2020 Mitsubishi Pajero will continue in the same way. Classic SUVs aren’t as popular as they used to be, but there is still a bit of demand. This particular model sells well in China, so the company decided to keep it in production for some more time. Moreover, we saw a mild update last year, which included some smaller visual upgrades, so it’s not hard to conclude that the current model will carry on for the next year as well. However, most of the SUV remained untouched. This particularly refers to mechanics, which haven’t been notably changed for years, so it’s no wonder the Pajero looks outdated in all aspects.
Interior
The cabin of this SUV definitely isn’t the most attractive, even in the Chinese market. The Pajero pays the debt to its age, so the dashboard looks pretty outdated. Also, most materials are hard plastics and you won’t find too much refinement in there. The same thing goes for the list of standard equipment. Base models are pretty much bare bones, while only the top-range trim level called GLS comes with things that are typical essentials these days. This includes pretty basic things like a touchscreen interface, leather upholstery, leather-wrapped steering wheel and similar things.
Like previous year models, the 2020 Mitsubishi Pajero will also come with two body-styles in the offer. Short-wheelbase versions feature two rows of seats, while stretched models add the third row as standard features. Typically for mid-size SUVs, the third row is pretty tight and best to be left for kids.
2020 Mitsubishi Pajero Engine
Another thing that definitely proves that current-generation Pajero definitely belongs to another era of the automotive industry is powertrain. This SUV comes with an antique 3.0-liter V6, which isn’t very efficient and delivers only 170 horsepower. Allegedly, things could become better in the next year, as the company could add a more up to date version of this engine, with 220 hp. In any case, a familiar 5-speed automatic will remain, as well as standard all-wheel drive.
2020 Mitsubishi Pajero Release Date and Price
We expect to see 2020 Mitsubishi Pajero sometime late in the year. In China, this old SUV starts at around 45.000 dollars.
Future
While the upcoming model is about to arrive without more important novelties, things could drastically change already in a year or two. Allegedly, the new generation of this legend is about to come. This time, Mitsubishi will develop the new SUV along with Nissan, so all of us expect to see new Patrol and Pajero models closely related, with the same platform, engines and many other things. However, we are still waiting to hear something from the officials on this matter.
