  • 2020 Lexus SUV Lineup: What’s new, what’s the same, and what’s still to come?

Lexus has one of the biggest SUV lineups among luxury car brands. Interestingly, we are not going to see too many novelties for the next year. Practically, the biggest novelty will be a facelift of the brand’s most popular crossover, the RX. The rest of the 2020 Lexus SUV lineup is about to continue in the same way.

For some models, such as UX, this makes sense since this is a pretty fresh model. On the other side, there are models that feature decade-old designs, particularly in the body-on-frame department, so this seems a little bit odd. However, the fact is that the Japanese manufacturer is actually working on new generations of these vehicles. The only problem is that they won’t be ready for the next year.

2020 Lexus UX

2020 Lexus UX

The smallest crossover in Lexus’ offer has been launched last year. Therefore, we have no doubt that the 2020 Lexus UX changes will be minimal. In terms of base design characteristics, we definitely don’t expect to see any kind of modifications. Count on the same overall design, which follows Lexus’ current design language almost entirely.

In terms of size, this is a typical subcompact crossover, heavily based on Toyota C-HR. Compared to the compact NX, it is for about 5 inches shorter, so adults may find it a little bit tight in the second row. On the other side, the interior quality is amazing, like in any other models, with super-fine materials, excellent sound insulation and smooth ride.

Under the hood, base models will continue with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit, which is good for about 169 horsepower. It isn’t particularly fast, so the 2020 Lexus UX Hybrid would definitely be a wiser choice, as it delivers similar performances but significantly better fuel economy. This system is based on a four-cylinder engine but also adds two electric motors. The whole system ensures pretty impressive 39 miles per gallon in a combined drive.

The overall ride quality is good, especially in terms of comfort. However, we would definitely like to see some kind of the 2020 Lexus UX sport version, with a little bit peppier engine.

2020 Lexus NX

2020 Lexus NX

The NX is among older models in the segment, so it’s no wonder some reports were suggesting 2020 Lexus NX Redesign. However, we are pretty sure that won’t happen. Practically, the only notable novelties are new standard safety features like Lane departure warning, lane keeping assist and forward collision mitigation. Therefore, don’t expect 2020 Lexus NX release date to be scheduled any earlier than usual.

The current generation has been around since 2014, so these 2020 Lexus NX next-generation rumors sound logical. Compared to the competition, it lacks in several aspects, starting from the lack of some pretty essential tech goodies. The infotainment system is very complicated to use, while smartphone integration goodies like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not available.

The 2020 Lexus NX 300 will continue as the only gasoline option. It features a 2.0-liter turbo engine with around 235 horsepower, which provides quite decent performances, though most rivals are better in this aspect. The NX is rather focused on a smooth and comfortable ride, while the 2020 Lexus NX 300h will continue as a great economic alternative. It features class-leading fuel economy, which goes around 33 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

Some rumors suggest Lexus NX 200 to come, but that really doesn’t make too much sense.

As we already mentioned, the 2020 Lexus NX next generation won’t come, but we are pretty sure this could happen already in about a year or two.

2020 LX

2020 Lexus LX 570

The 2020 Lexus LX redesign was in various reports for some time, but it looks like we will have to wait for some more time to see changes on this ancient model, which has been around since 2008. Despite the age, it is still a great vehicle in many aspects. Unparalleled reliability and spectacular off-road capabilities are something that helps this model stand out in a pretty competitive segment. Also, the overall built quality is impressive.

On the other side, it also lacks in so many aspects. Still, we won’t see any 2020 Lexus LX changes. Therefore, count on a well-made but still very outdated-looking cabin, which also lacks many hi-tech essentials for today’s standards.

The 2020 Lexus LX engine will be the same good old 5.7-liter V8, good for 383 horses and 403 pound-feet of torque. Performances are still quite competitive, but a big complaint goes to fuel economy, which is the lowest in class. Therefore, many reports were suggesting 2020 Lexus LX Hybrid, though there is no doubt that this won’t happen. Also, the 2020 Lexus LX towing capacity goes around 7.000 pounds. That’s decent, but many rivals are far better.

All in all, 2020 Lexus LX changes will be minimal, which means we can count on the same price as well. Base models go around 86.500 dollars.

The 2020 Lexus LX release date should be scheduled for the end of the year.

2020 GX

2020 Lexus GX

As another antic vehicle in the company’s lineup, this mid-size SUV is also expected to receive a complete overhaul in the near future. However, the 2020 Lexus GX Redesign definitely won’t happen. We are about to see pretty much the same vehicle for the next year, which is primarily characterized by excellent reliability and off-road performances. The 2020 Lexus GX changes will be minimal.

On the inside, the 2020 Lexus GX 7-seater will continue to be the standard version. Still, the third row is quite tight, but that’s pretty typical for the class. The same thing goes for cargo capacity. A real complaint goes for the cargo area, which definitely isn’t among the biggest ones in the class.

When it comes to the powertrain, the Lexus GX 460 will remain the only version in the offer. It is a quite old engine, which is good for about 310 horsepower 330 pound-feet of torque. The reliability of this unit is impressive. On the other side, 2020 Lexus GX gas mileage will continue to big one of the biggest issues, as 15 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway is the best you can get.

Since there are no bigger 2020 Lexus GX changes to come, we expect to see the new model sometime late in the year, with the pretty much same price that currently starts around 52.500 dollars.

2020 Lexus RX

2020 Lexus RX 350

Once again, a lot of rumors, this time about the 2020 Lexus RX redesign. Once again, it won’t happen. However, there is a nice amount of changes to come for the next year. We are about to see a typical mid-cycle refresh, with a focus on visual updates. The 2020 Lexus RX facelift will bring a lot of new styling details on both ends of the SUV.

Of course, nice changes will come on the inside as well. The new 2020 Lexus RX infotainment technologies are definitely among most important novelties for the next year. Finally, we are about to see a touchscreen interface. Also, the 2020 Lexus RX Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone goodies are on the list of notable novelties for the next year.

Unfortunately, the 2020 Lexus RX refresh won’t bring any novelty in terms of the powertrain. We are about to see two familiar choices. The base model will continue with a well-known 3.5-liter V6 engine, which is good for about 295 horsepower.

The 2020 Lexus RX 450h will also continue in the same way, with a 308-hp hybrid system. Of course, both two- and three-row versions will be in the offer as well.

When it comes to the price, the base 2020 Lexus RX 350 will go around 44.500 dollars. Expect to see the new model in the third quarter of the year.

Lexus Performance SUV

Lexus Performance SUV

Many reports speculate about the new Lexus Performance SUV. However, we are pretty sure it won’t be a completely new model. More likely, this will be a hi-performance version of some of the existing models. Our first pick would definitely be the NX, though we expect to see a redesign first. The new model would come in a couple of years, with the familiar F badge. Of course, don’t throw away the possibility to see other models under this badge as well.

This is just speculation at the moment, so we can’t go in details when it comes to specs and design characteristics. Some reports even suggest that this refers to an off-road version. It that way, it would make a perfect sense to see tuned versions of models like GX or LX, but these models are already among most capable off-roaders in their segments. More details on this matter should be known in the near future.
