The new 2020 Lexus GX will be a very similar vehicle to the Toyota Land Cruiser. However, outside the US there’s a smaller model called Land Cruiser Prado. This vehicle is the equivalent for the GX lines in the States and Canada. Lately, we could see new redesigned Land Cruiser Prado, with significant visual changes and improved look. That means only one thing, the 2020 Lexus GX will get some adjustments as well. Moreover, the preview of Toyota’s SUVs is a good example to see where will the development of the three-row mid-size Lexus GX will go.
The Lexus GX will probably change the body style, to support all these changes. Besides the exterior changes, the Lexus GX will also get the innovations under the bonnet. The new model will keep the ongoing structure, but the hybrid version will go into the development phase in the near future. Lexus already has this type of engines for all smaller crossovers and SUVs, now it’s time for the flagship model to go through electrification. Moreover, the F Sport version will be launched after the base model, probably by the end of 2020. The TRD upgrades will be available, and they will improve greatly the off-road abilities of the GX.

2020 Lexus GX Redesign and Changes
It’s time for Lexus GX to get some major visual changes and significant redesign. Ten years is a very long time, and the GX needs to get some modern-day features and a more appealing look. The other mid-size vehicles from the Japanese company’s stable already went through a serious facelift in the recent period. However, the GX 460 still rocks that old-school look, like it’s some model from the end of the 20th century. But, after the facelift, it will get some modern shapes and details, to stay competitive in the growing market. The 2020 Lexus GX will get a more aggressive fascia design, and the cabin will also see a complete reconstruction. We will talk in more details about interior later in this review.
The test prototypes of the new model are already on the streets, and we can expect that it will be ready for production very soon. From the photos that leaked on the web, we notice that new GX will have a more square-shouldered shape. That’s the clear indicator that the GX will go towards more off-road performances. Moreover, the grille will be larger and more prominent. On the current version, it seems much smaller than the grilles on the other Lexus vehicles. The famous spindle grille on the LR and RX is the focal point of the entire front fascia, for example. Also, you can count on design changes for the bumpers and headlights as well. Doors are going to be bigger, and the ample standard running boards are included. Lastly, the rear end will go through minor modifications, and the rear door will get a side-opening arrangement.

Interior
The upcoming 2020 Lexus GX will be a 3-row/7-passenger SUV. With the 2nd-row bench seat 40/20/40 split and flat-folding 3rd-row seats, the cabin will offer numerous combinations for storage either passengers or gear. Moreover, the cabin will be equipped with the latest infotainment systems and gadgets. Toyota offers its own Entune infotainment system, that has proven to be very good on the other Toyota’s vehicles.
Also, the AndroidAuto is added to the Apple CarPlay connection, and it will be available for the SUVs and for the trucks as well. On top of that, the company will add more safety features. The Toyota announces that the standard safety package will include 10 airbags, active headrest to reduce the severity of the whiplash, and Luxus’ Safety Connect system, with 24/7 emergency services.

Lexus GX Specs, Hybrid, TRD
Under the hood of new 2020 Lexus GX will be a 4.6-liter V8 engine that can produce 301 hp and 329 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive will be standard through all trim levels, and the transmission will be the upgraded 6-speed automatic. The ongoing model is not so fuel-friendly, with a rating of 16 mpg combined. However, the new Lexus GX will use lightweight materials in body structure, and we expect that will add a mile or two to that number. Still, the GX got to improve a couple of things. First, the fuel-economy problem. To solve that, the company will develop a hybrid engine. But, we can’t tell for sure what type of unit it will be. One thing is certain, the electric motors will boost power and reduce fuel economy.
As a matter of fact, engineers will improve handling and driving skills, both on the highways and off the road. Also, Lexus will add the F Sport package for the highway runs and fast moving in the urban areas. This package will bring new suspension and shocks, to help the GX achieve better maneuvering. On top of that, the GX will get a TRD PRO package. This package will ensure the smooth ride for GX, and the special upgrades will keep the body from damage when facing the rugged terrains. The TRD PRO will also include all-terrain wheels, unique skid plates, and freshly redesigned bumpers.
Release Date and Price
The release date of 2020 Lexus GX is not yet confirmed. Still, we are sure that the launching of the new model is Toyota’s prime concern. In the Nagoya-based company, the main focus is working on new GX, so we expect that it will be ready by the fall. Still, the sales will start in the first few months of 2020.
As for the price, last years model has an MSRP right around $54,200. However, the fully loaded Lexus GX easily tops $70,000. We assume that the 2020 Lexus GX won’t change the price drastically. With the base price of around $55,000, the GX costs more than the rivals in the class, except the BMW X5.
