Making a new version of an iconic SUV like this one seems like a very complicated task. Therefore, it’s no wonder that the new model is still under development, three years after the discontinuation of the legendary model. To remind you, the famous Defender remained untouched for decades. One of the most famous off-roaders of all time finally ended its production in 2016. Since then, we are waiting for a successor and it looks it is finally on its way. The new 2020 Land Rover Defender is about to come in the near future and it looks like the company has prepared a full load of novelties for this occasion.

The new model will finally come with a new platform, with new styling and tons of new technologies that will bring this SUV to the 21st century. The testing model has been spotted several times so far and it looks the launch is close.

2020 Land Rover Defender Redesign

For SUV enthusiasts, this is by far the most anticipated thing for the next year. The 2020 Land Rover Defender will be a completely new iteration of the ultimate off-roaded. For this occasion, the company will introduce so many new design solutions and technologies. The first thing that comes to mind in the platform. Allegedly, the all-new Land Rover Defender 2020 is about to ride on the company’s familiar MLA architecture, which already underprints models like Discovery and Range Rover Sport.

This will be highly beneficial for several reasons, mainly because the new model will be far more driveable on the road and that is one of the key requirements for every modern SUV, no matter how good it is off the road. Of course, we will also see significant chassis reinforcement, which will ensure the necessary dose of rigidity and durability to ensure excellent off-road performances.

Styling

When it comes to the styling, the latest 2020 Land Rover Defender spy shots clearly show that the new model cares a lot about tradition. Although still under a camouflage, the new model clearly shows its super-boxy shape, which resembles the original. Still, be sure that the new model will come with a completely new styling approach, which will be far more modern, even futuristic in some aspects. This particularly refers to the front end, which could even take some inspiration from the 2011 Defender Concept.

Still, we believe that the company will bring the new model closer to the brand’s current design language. So, headlights, grille and other areas should have a lot in common with models like Discovery. At this moment, we don’t know which body styles will be in the offer. At this point, we know for sure that a 5-door version is coming, while the 3-door model also seems quite likely. On the other side, pickup and other versions are still waiting for the official confirmation.

Interior

There no need to talk about how the new model will look significantly better on the inside. The original model didn’t change too much for all those decades of production. The manufacturer claims that the new model will also put the focus on durability, but we presume it will all come with far more style. Of course, we count on modern dashboard design, as well as with far more style and refinements, particularly in terms of materials quality. Of course, the 2020 Land Rover Defender is also expected to come with a full load of latest tech features, both in terms of hi-tech goodies and advanced driver aids. As we already mentioned, different body styles are expected to come. So, count on different numbers in terms of interior space, cargo volume and similar things.

2020 Land Rover Defender Engines

When it comes to the powertrain, the new 2020 Land Rover Defender will completely rely on the company’s new four-cylinder engines. Base models are expected to feature a 2.0-liter gasoline unit, the same one that powers Discovery. Still, we don’t know yet which versions will be in the offer, as this engine comes in several output versions. The same thing goes for the diesel engine from the same Ingenium family, which comes in a power range between 150 and 240 horsepower. It is still unknown whether V6 units will be in the offer or not. Finally, expect to see a hybrid version in the offer as well.
