The arriving 2020 Jeep Wrangler is the latest company’s rock-crawler, that will come with the fresh exterior design, more features and power, and improved safety and off-road ability. The new model will offer a choice of two or four doors and several roof configurations, so the customers can fully enjoy the open-air drive.
Moreover, this Wrangler is wider and comes with a longer wheelbase as well. The interior will also get a couple of changes. Some of the essential features from the previous version are still available, but there are plenty of updates and new interior elements. The customers may choose between two engine options for now, but there is a good chance that the diesel unit will be ready before the releasing.
When you first see 2020 Jeep Wrangler exterior, you’ll notice new, revolutionary approach to fascia design. However, some of the changes you may not notice at first glance. The new Wrangler comes two inches wider and adds more than two inches on the wheelbase, in comparison to the last generation. This changes will improve the overall stability of the vehicle, and it will increase the cabin space.
Moreover, the doors are made of aluminum, and now they are easier to remove if needed. Also, folding down the windshield is much easier on the new model. On previous Wrangler to do this, you must remove 28 bolts. Now, it only takes four bolts to remove the windshield. The interior of upcoming 2020 Jeep Wranglers is a successful combination of modern, elegant design and a simple yet recognizable layout. Curled up in the body-colored dashboard panels lay large touch-screen infotainment system and the latest Alpine audio system. As expected, the essential grab handles are still part of the cabin, as well as the removable top and protective incorporated rollbars. The base model comes a little bit less equipped than we expect, but move up to the higher trim levels and you’ll get heated seats and steering wheel, leather-wrapped dashboard, and navigation.
Moreover, the 4-door Wrangler adds more rear-seat legroom, thanks to the longer wheelbase. The standard model includes fog lights, push-button ignition, and the company’s new Sunrider, with its sunroof panel. However, air conditioning, power windows, and Bluetooth are missing for the base model and will be available only on for the higher trims. The Wrangler Unlimited adds an extra set of doors, additional rear-seat space and a 5-passenger capacity.
Under the hood of the new 2020 Jeep Wrangler will be two engine options. However, the potential diesel engine is still on the table and may join as a third option very soon. The first engine option is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 powertrain that can produce 285 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. This unit can be mated with either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The second drivetrain option is a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, good for 268 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. The 2.0-liter turbo engine is available on all trims, but only in a pair with the 8-speed automatic transmission. Also, the 4WD system includes the Command-Trac part-time 2-speed transfer case and Selec-Trac 2-speed transfer case with full-time 4-wheel drive.
The Rubicon’s Rock-Trac 2-speed transfer case, 4.0:1 low-range gear will be available as well. The EPA city/highway fuel economy for the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine is 23/25 mpg (2-door version) and 22/24 mpg (4-door version). For the 3.6-liter V6 powertrain, EPA figures are 17/25 mpg (with manual transmission), 17/23 mpg (manual transmission, 4-door version), and 18/23 mpg (automatic transmission). The towing capacity of 2020 Jeep Wrangler reaches 3,500. The maximum towing capacity is the same for both available engines.
The recent spy photos of 2020 Jeep Wrangler revealed something interesting. The eye of the camera catches the chrome 3.0 badge, just above the license plate. That itself is a clear signal to Wrangler fans that something different coming their way. Next to it is the big D and a smaller “diesel” engraving, surely now, the long-awaited diesel Wrangler will hit the streets in the near future.
The EcoDiesel engine is already in use, with Jeep Grand Cherokee and Ram 1500. For these two vehicles, it produces 250 hp and 420 pound-feet of torque. The company is aware that the fans want a low-end torque in a factory-built Wrangler, and they will try to make it as soon as possible. Although there’s no official announcement, we expect that the Jeep will bring the diesel option later this year, with the start of the 2020 model sales.
