2020 Dodge Dakota – The Return

2020 Dodge Dakota

If we can trust the latest reports, the 2020 Dodge Dakota is ready for a great comeback! This mid-size pickup truck will soon be set for a new serial production and will have plenty of improvements to offer. This pickup has been discounted years ago, but the FCA decided that is Dakota’s turn to shine once more. Now, as the return is pretty certain, the company has good reasons to continue production in the future.

First, this carmaker now has a completely prepared architecture, so the investment in the new model shouldn’t cost much. Second, these type of vehicles gains more and more popularity, as a cheaper alternative to full-size trucks. Moreover, the new model will be available for the North American market, and it will come with an elegant exterior, powerful performance, and good looking exterior. Given these points, we hope that the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will introduce the new model in the following year.

2020 Dodge Dakota Exterior

The new 2020 Dodge Dakota arrives with significant exterior changes. The body will get a makeover that should help this midsize pickup to become more competitive and up-to-date. The body is slightly larger, the front side will see major changes and as a result, the aerodynamics will get improvements as well. The Dakota rides on a new uni-body platform and some styling ideas are taken from other Dodge’s vehicles.

The new, more prominent grille is the focal point of the front part, alongside the redesigned LED highlights. The hood appeal more elegant, with the different creases and lines on top. The wheels are 18-inch for the standard package and as a part of the optional, you’ll get 20-inch wheels. Moreover, the rear end features a bit sportier design, thanks to the new taillights and larger bumper.

2020 Dodge Dakota Interior

The interior of the upcoming 2020 Dodge Dakota won’t see any dramatic change from the previous version. However, as the time passed some features are become old-fashioned and the refreshment is needed. So, upgrade of the tech features is possibly the biggest interior change. The new model is stylish and attractive. The level of comfort is just amazing, and the new Dakota probably have the most comfortable cabin in the segment.

This pickup truck can accommodate up to five passengers and the seats are very supportive and cozy. The infotainment system is getting an update as well and the steering wheel is upholstered in leather and multifunctional. Altogether, the interior is really practical, thanks to the excellent position of buttons. The console features a new, bigger display for navigation and dash will get a touchscreen that is also bigger and very intuitive and easy to use.

2020 Dodge Dakota Specs

Under the hood of 2020 Dodge Dakota will probably be a familiar FCA’s engines. The base model will get 3.6-liter that can accomplish 290 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Also, more efficient 2.0-liter inline-four drivetrain with a max output of 270hp and 295 lb-ft of torque is available as well. This drivetrain offers a similar amount of power as the V6 but also delivers much better fuel economy. The 8-speed automatic gearbox comes as a standard option for both engines.

Furthermore, if you want better-towing capacity you can rely on 3.0-liter 6-cylinder turbodiesel engine. If this type of powertrain sounds familiar, you’re right. It’s the same unit that powers Grand Cherokee. This engine can deploy around 265 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque. Also, there are certain rumors that suggest launching of hi-performance Dodge Dakota SRT. Still, we don’ have any information about this model.

2020 Dodge Dakota and the Fiat Fullback

A lot has been spoken around the web about the future of Fiat Fullback. The current generation is simply a modified version of Mitsubishi l200/Triton. This vehicle is on the market a couple of years now, and the Japanese carmaker is now a part of Renault-Nissan coalition. So, frankly, we don’t believe that the future cooperation between companies is possible.

Nevertheless, the next generation of the Fiat Fullback should be based on the new Dakota model. That means longer wheelbase, compared to the SUV version, and pretty much the same architecture as well. The Fullback will be adjusted to the North American market and will be the main rival to the Toyota Hilux.

2020 Dodge Dakota Release Date and Price

While we waiting for the official confirmation of the 2020 Dodge Dakota comeback, it seems pretty useless to talk about the release date. Until the FCA executives come out with detail, we can only assume the precise time or quartal of the release. Anyway, whenever the new model makes a debut, the Dakota will surely come with a few different trim levels.

The price of the upcoming model shouldn’t go far away from the rest of the segment. We believe that the base model should cost somewhere between $20,000 and $25,000. Naturally, with this set of prices, the main rivals of Dakota will be Toyota Tacoma, Ford Ranger, and Chevy Colorado.

  1. Nice write up. I loved my Dakota and I’m always looking for information on a new Dakota (or whatever they end up calling the Ram mid-size). I’ll be in the market for a new truck mid 2020 – and nothing currently out there would hit the spot like a new Dakota. The GM twins are nothing but troubles, the Ranger is pricey and will have it’s share of typical Ford issues, and my Tacoma has had so many issues including frame corrosion, that I’ll probably never buy another Toyota. Dakota to the rescue, I hope.

    1. Toyota is THE MOST DISHONORABLE car company’s out there! We had a 07 FJ Cruiser. Four years into ownership we had a rust issue. The drivers door had rust from the INSIDE out. The door skin was not properly prepped for the giant sponge( for sound deadening ) and the rust developed under the sponge. Toyota compleatly washed their hands of the whole thing! Mind you, we lived in SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA the driest places on earth, AND we were not at the beach, but INLAND (Corona). No car has rust issuer there!!!!! They would not repair the issue. This was not our first toyota we owned, but it was our last…..

  2. Unibody? Is it going to be based on to dodge Durango? Modified Durango. Better be priced similar to the frontier or I’ll just buy a ranger or full sized if prices don’t come down. A lcd TV that was once $2000 is now $500. Obviously cars and trucks should be at lot lower in price.

    1. I agree with you, Rob. As far as we know, it will probably be based on the Durango. Now, we must wait and see what will come up with Dakota.
      Thank you.

  3. Put me on the buyers list for a Dodge Dakota, we’ve had 2 and are anxiously waiting for the return of the mighty mid size truck.

  4. I love the thought of the Dakota coming back. I have had two and am currently in a Tacoma, It is a lease and will give it up next fall. Tacoma is way to pricey for me to get another one. I prefer the Dakota anytime. Even called the dealer this spring and they had no clue as to when it would be released I think the expiration of my lease and the Dakota coming back is perfect for me. Mark me down for one. Please?

  5. I had a explorer sport tract , and I hoping this new truck will come on the market I am looking for a smaller truck just enough room to move things

  6. Have a 2003 &1989 Dakota. Both have fully boxed frames, very strong. UNIBODY frame for a midsize pickup, are you serious ? If you can get 22mpg with a 1500 & a hemi, why no hemi for a smaller, lighter truck. When will the Europeans LEARN Americans love & want V~8s?
