It looks like this small crossover is untouchable. At first, everyone thought that a test mule of a small crossover was a new generation of the Trax. However, it turned out that this is a brand-new TrailBlazer. Soon after, we expected to head from the company’s spokesman it will be discontinued. However, the latest reports are suggesting the 2020 Chevy Trax will carry on in North America and that it won’t feature too many changes. It will be sold alongside new TrailBlazer, as a little bit smaller and more affordable version.

At this point, we don’t know much about the upcoming version. Although we’ve mentioned that bigger changes aren’t expected, we won’t exclude the possibility to see updates in terms of new colors and similar things. On the other side, the mechanical aspect of the new model will definitely remain untouched. All in all, we expect to see it sometime late in the year.

As we already mentioned, new 2020 Chevy Trax colors as some of the rare potential novelties we could see. Other than that, the small crossover will continue in the same way. It has been around for about six years and it still rides on an original Gamma II platform, which also underprints models like Opel Mokka and Buick Encore. While mechanics are the same as in the initial 2013-year model, the styling has been notably updated. We saw a facelift a couple of years ago, which has brought new details, particularly at the front. You can see significantly more attractive headlights, along with a new grille, bumper etc. Although the 2020 Chevy Trax still won’t adopt the brand’s new, Blazer-inspired design language, it will certainly look attractive enough to remain competitive in this crowded segment, which of excellent small machines.

Interior

We don’t have to wait for 2020 Chevy Trax pictures to see if there are interior changes or not. Simply, Chevy doesn’t practice mid-cycle interior changes, so this model won’t be an exception. Therefore, count on a familiar cabin layout, which is characterized by a mix of soft-touch materials and hard plastics. The overall impression seems okay, though many rivals feel much more upscale from the inside. On the other side, we can easily agree that the Trax offers more than enough space inside the cabin. Despite we are talking about a subcompact crossover, the amount of leg and headroom is quite decent in the second row as well, so two adult persons can enjoy the comfortable ride for sure.

The cargo area isn’t the most spacious in the segment but definitely is okay for this class of vehicles. You can count on 19 cubic feet behind rear seats, while the overall capacity goes up to 48. Actually, a bigger issue is the lack of practical small-item storage compartments.

Features

This aspect of the crossover may bring a couple of novelties, but don’t expect anything significant. The list of standard equipment currently includes features like -inch touch-screen display, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hot spot, Bluetooth, USB ports,six-speaker audio system etc. In higher trims, you can also get a sunroof, satellite radio, a seven-speaker Bose premium audio system etc.

As you can see, the list of standard equipment looks pretty good, until you check safety features. In this aspect, Chevy isn’t that generous, as a rearview camera is the only standard safety feature. Fortunately, things are much better in higher trims, where you can get blind spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning, and lane departure warning.

2020 Chevy Trax Engine

The engine has always been the weakest point of this crossover. Unfortunately, things won’t change in the next year. The Trax will continue with a small 1.4-liter turbo engine, which delivers 138 horsepower. With such numbers, you definitely can’t count on some spectacular driving dynamics. Moreover, this crossover is pretty slow. The thing that is even more disappointing is the fact that this crossover is neither fast nor efficient. Fuel economy is also at a pretty low level. You can count on about 26 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. Many rivals with more powerful engines, including Mazda CX-3 and Toyota C-HR feature higher mpg ratings. Of course, these numbers will be even lower with the 2020 Chevy Trax AWD version.

2020 Chevy Trax Release Date and Price

As you can see, there aren’t many things to come in the next year. This small crossover will continue with familiar design and features. Therefore, we should see it sometime late in the year. The price should also remain unchanged. Base models should go around 21.000 dollars, while range-topping models can get pretty close to 30.000 dollars. The competition in the segment is incredibly tough. Some of the key players are models like Honda HR-V, Toyota C-HR, Mazda CX-3 etc.
