The famous luxury carmaker is filling up its lineup with crossover and 2020 Cadillac XT6 is the newest addition. As the most rival companies already have pretty much all segments completed, we’ve been waiting from Cadillac to do the same. This is a brand-new model, which will represent the famous luxury brand in the segment of mid-size crossovers. It looks it has everything it needs to be successful. It is large enough to accommodate three rows of passengers, with a decent cargo area as well.
Furthermore, it is quite luxurious, with fine materials on the inside and plenty of tech goodies. However, the powertrain department is relying on just one engine at the moment and we hope things will change soon. Until then, count on a familiar V6 that powers its mainstream siblings, as well as on a typical FF layout. AWD models will be introduced soon after. Expect to see them by the end of the year.
2020 Cadillac XT6 Design
As we already mentioned, the 2020 Cadillac XT6 is a completely new model. This will be a mid-size luxury crossover so you may presume it will use the same platform as models like Chevy Travers and GMC Acadia. The XT6 will be closer to the Acadia, as it will use its version of the architecture. In practice, this means a wheelbase of around 113 inches, instead of more than 120, which is the number of Traverse measures. Still, the new 2020 Cadillac XT6 dimensions will be large enough to provide plenty of comforts, while smaller size will surely have a positive impact on performances and efficiency.
In terms of the styling, the 2020 Cadillac XT6 introduces the brand’s new design language, which comes with a familiar grille layout, but with new headlights that are heavily inspired by the recent Escala concept.
When it comes to the cabin design, the 2020 Cadillac XT6 interior brings a lot of luxury. Typical for the brand, all materials are shiny and look great, while the overall quality is at a high level as well. The dashboard comes with a familiar V-shape layout and it is characterized by pretty clean lines. An integrated touchscreen also looks pretty good, as well as the instrument cluster. The thing that we don’t like is some of the color schemes, which looks like they directly came from a mainstream car.
In terms of functionality, things are pretty good. The 2020 Cadillac XT6 comes with three rows of seating, and the first and second rows are particularly comfortable, with massive and almost plush-like seats. However, the third row is a little bit tighter, though good enough to accommodate adults. Same goes for the cargo area, which is not the biggest in the class but has a quite decent volume.
At this point, we know that the initial XT6 will be available in two trim levels. Those are Premium Luxury and Sport. Besides different specs in terms of standard equipment, the two versions will be different in a few more ways. For example, the 2020 Cadillac XT6 Premium Luxury is pretty much a standard model when it comes to mechanics. It comes with standard FWD and optional AWD which is a typical on-demand system. On the other side, the Sport comes with standard AWD, but also with the torque-vectoring rear axle, which is pretty much the same as the one that can be found in GMC Acadia.
When it comes to safety features, both versions are impressive and include advanced systems like forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors, lane-keeping assist with lane-departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring. Unfortunately, the advanced Super Cruise won’t be in the offer.
2020 Cadillac XT6 Engine
At this point, we know just one engine that will find its place under the hood of 2020 Cadillac XT6. Of course, we are talking about a well-known 3.6-liter V6, which is by far the most common engine that can be found in vehicles that are based on the C1XX architecture. For this occasion, it is expected to be tuned to around 310 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. This engine comes in pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission and latest reports are suggesting that the 2020 Cadillac XT6 will be able to tow around 4.000 pounds.
We hope for some hi-performance version in the future. Cadillac definitely has a couple of interesting engines, but it is a question which one would be able to fit with the C1XX platform. Some reports are even suggesting a hybrid powertrain, but there are still no words from the company on that matter.
2020 Cadillac XT6 Release Date and Price
The 2020 Cadillac XT6 should hit the market sometime in the second half of the year. At this point, there are still no details about the price, but the latest reports are suggesting around 50.000 dollars for base versions.
