Despite the last year redesign, the world’s most famous luxury crossover is about to come with novelties for the second production year. The current generation is full of novelties, but we are still waiting for hi-performance versions to come. Those will be the biggest novelties for the 2020 BMW X5. We will see a lot of upgrades in terms of mechanics, aesthetics and more. On the other side, standard models are about to continue in the same way. We are about to see the same design which debuted last year, which has brought new styling, as well as a new platform, interior design and more. Still, we could see some minor updates, in terms of new standard features and similar things. In any case, the 2020 BMW X5 release date shouldn’t be scheduled for a typical time of the year, sometime in the last quarter.

2020 BMW X5 Design

As we already mentioned, the base design characteristics are about to remain the same. The new generation of this mid-size crossover came last year, with a great portion of novelties. The most important is definitely the new CLAR platform, which brings significant improvements in efficiency, design characteristics and more. Of course, there is a new styling, which continues the evolution of the brand’s famous spindle grille design philosophy. We don’t expect any particular changes for the next year.

On the other side, we are about to see a lot of novelties from the famous M hi-performance division. It looks like we are about to see two models under this badge. Those would be the performance 2020 BMW X5 M50i and hi-performance 2020 BMW X5 M models. Both models will come with tons of upgrades that are typical for the M division. This includes numerous mechanical modifications, starting from a new suspension, new brakes, chassis reinforcement and more. Also, count on various aesthetical upgrades, in terms of new bodywork, wheels and more.

Interior

In this aspect, we don’t on any notable change. The recent redesign has brought a completely new cabin. The new X5 looks pretty stylish, though we have to say that some rival, such as Audi Q7 or Mercedes-Benz GLE look far more opulent on the inside. Still, that doesn’t change the fact that all materials are hi-grade and that the overall comfort is at the pretty high level. Front seats are particularly comfortable, thanks to massive, supportive and highly-adjustable seats. The second row also offers a pretty decent amount of space. With the new generation, the company also added an optional third row of seats. However, it is pretty tight and won’t be of too much use, except for kids.

On the other side, the cargo area is pretty large for the class. You can count on around 34 cubic feet behind the second row, while the overall capacity goes around 72 cubic feet. All in all, the 2020 BMW X5 interior will be both functional and luxurious.

Tech and Safety Features

When it standard tech goodies, this crossover standard pretty good already in most basic versions. Things like 12.3-inch touch screen, a 10-speaker hi-fi audio system, navigation, Bluetooth, three USB ports are standard in all models, as well as Apple CarPlay. In higher trims, you can get even more, including things like quad-zone automatic climate control, Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless charging, satellite radio, 16-speaker audio system and more.

In terms of safety, all 2020 BMW X5 models will be equipped with things like adaptive cruise control, a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning and more. Things like head-up display, night vision, Evasion Assistant, a surround-view camera, and parallel and perpendicular park assist will also be available.

2020 BMW X5 Engines

The two current gasoline engines are about to carry on in the same way. Base models will continue with a new 3.0-liter inline-six, which delivers around 335 horsepower. A 456-hp V8 will be in the offer as well. However, we are also about to see novelties for the next year. As we already mentioned, the 2020 BMW X5 M is about to come in the next year, with a max output of 600 horsepower.

Outside North America, this crossover will also come in diesel variants, with a well-known six-cylinder turbodiesel, which comes in two versions, with either 260 or 400 horsepower.
