  • 2020 Acura SUV Lineup: What’s new, what’s the same, and what’s still to come?

Unlike other premium brands, Acura doesn’t have too many SUV models in its offer. Moreover, its lineup is rather small and consists of just a couple of vehicles. Of course, the first one that comes to mind is the recently redesigned RDX, which is now one of the best compact luxury crossovers you can find on the market. After excellent reception and critics, we have no doubt that sales numbers can only go up. The second production year shouldn’t bring too many notable changes, though some reports are suggesting a hi-performance version, as well as a hybrid powertrain. There is no official confirmation at the moment.

The other model is called MDX. This one is bigger, but also older. It has been on the market for some time, so the next year will probably be the last one for the current generation. Therefore, chances to see some more important changes are minimal, though various reports are once again suggesting a performance, Type S-badged version.

These two are the only crossover in Acura’s Nort American lineup. However, that could easily change in the next year. Latest reports suggest that the small CDX, which is currently available in China only, could come to the U.S. market as well. That would probably be the biggest novelty in 2020 Acura SUV lineup. Once again, we are still waiting to hear something from the officials.

Acura CDX Might Come to North America

2020 Acura CDX

If you’re not familiar with this nameplate, that’s because you don’t live in Asia. Although Acura was originally established as a luxury brand for the U.S. market, it is also present in other parts of the world these days. This one has been sold in China for several years, but the latest reports suggest its arrival to North America as well.

When it comes to the 2020 Acura CDX China version, things are about to remain the same. The company believes it’s still early for a bigger update, so count on familiar design characteristics. This is a pretty small crossover, based on the Honda HR-V. It is subcompact in size and shares a lot of things with the small counterpart from Honda, particularly in terms of the chassis and most mechanics.

While the mechanics may be the same, the sheet metal is completely different. It completely follows the brand’s current design language and shares the most styling solutions with its bigger, North American siblings. That is one of the reasons why we believe it could hit the U.S. market as well. At this point, we don’t have any information about the potential 2020 Acura CDX USA release date, but this could change in the near future.

If this happens, we have no doubt that the small crossover would undergo some modifications. One of the is the powertrain. The Chinese version uses a 1.5-liter turbo-four engine, which is good for about 180 horsepower. Seems like a fair amount of power for a vehicle of this size. Still, some reports are suggesting that the 2020 Acura CDX Hybrid could come as well. Unfortunately, we don’t have the exact details about the powertrain at the moment.

The 2020 Acura CDX interior is another aspect of the crossover that could change. We could see a couple of upgrades for the potential U.S. arrival, such as finer interior materials, more features and similar things. However, the base interior layout will definitely remain the same.

If it arrives in North America, we presume that the base price would probably go around 30-35.000 dollars.

2020 Acura MDX

2020 Acura MDX

Introduced in 2014, this mid-size crossover is one of the oldest models in the brand’s lineup. Therefore, it’s no wonder that many reports are suggesting 2020 Acura MDX redesign. However, that won’t happen. This next generation will come in about a year or two, most likely as the 2021-year model. The current generation will carry on for some more time.

However, that doesn’t mean we won’t see any 2020 Acura MDX changes. Moreover, there are some quite interesting things to come. If you are Honda fan, you probably know that the Japanese manufacturer has announced that the famous Type S performance division will be revived. Therefore, the 2020 Acura MDX Type S seems quite possible.

The potential performance version would come with a nice number of novelties. Of course, one of the first things that come to mind is the engine. According to the latest 2020 Acura MDX rumors, that should be a new turbo V6 engine, which will exclusively be installed in Acura models. Besides the new engine, we count on many other modifications. The testing mule has been spotted and the 2020 Acura MDX spy photos clearly show that some visual updates are about to come as well. Unfortunately, details are unavailable at the moment.

Other than the potential performance version, we shouldn’t see bigger changes in terms of 2020 Acura MDX specs for the next year. Therefore, standard models will continue with a familiar 3.5-liter V6. It is good for about 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque and comes paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Of course, there is also a hybrid version in the offer. The 2020 Acura MDX Sport Hybrid comes with a 3.0-liter V6-based system, which delivers a total output of 321 horsepower. It is paired to a 7-speed automatic transmission and comes with a pretty advanced Sport Hybrid AWD system.

When it comes to the 2020 Acura MDX release date, expect to see it sometime late in the year. Base modes will go around 44.500 dollars.

2020 Acura RDX

2020 Acura RDX

Unlike the MDX, the compact RDX is a pretty fresh model. It came a year ago and brought a lot of amazing things. Practically, it is one of the best compact luxury crossovers you can find on the market these days, thanks to excellent design, attractive styling, hi-quality cabin, strong performances and many other great things. Therefore, we don’t expect to see bigger changes in the next year, at least when it comes to standard models, despite numerous 2020 Acura RDX rumors that claim differently.

On the other side, we could see a big novelty in terms of a new, hi-performance version. We’ve already mentioned that Honda is bringing back Type S models, and this refers to Acura models as well. The 2020 Acura RDX Type S seems like a perfect opportunity for the Japanese manufacturer to expand its range and compete with hi-performance luxury SUVs as well.

Another interesting rumor is about the 2020 Acura RDX hybrid. Allegedly, we are about to see a hybrid version as well, though the details are still unavailable. Some experts suggest a completely new system, based on a smaller and more efficient four-cylinder engine. On the other side, base models will definitely continue with the potent 2.0-liter turbo-four, which is good for about 272 hp and 280 pound-feet of torque. The engine comes in a pair with a new 10-speed automatic gearbox, so you probably won’t find any other crossover that offers such amazing ride quality in its base version.

Bigger 2020 Acura RDX interior changes are not expected. Still, we could see a couple of additions in terms of standard equipment, as well as new color schemes.

Despite the potential novelties, the 2020 Acura RDX release date should be scheduled for the last quarter of the years. Base models will go around 37.500 dollars. On the other side, fully-loaded models like 2020 Acura RDX Advance Package can easily get close to a 50.000 tag.
