Allegedly, Honda is about to introduce a new generation of its mid-size luxury crossover in the next year. The current generation of MDX has been around for more than five years. Still, it doesn’t show too many signs of aging. It is still one of the best models in the segment, especially if we consider its price, which is lower compared to most rivals. That definitely doesn’t mean that Acura lags behind in something.
Moreover, it is better than many expensive crossovers in some aspects, especially in terms of efficiency, practicality and driving dynamics. Still, the company wants to make thins even better, so we are eagerly waiting for the 2020 Acura MDX redesign, which is about to bring lots of novelties, improvements in many aspects. Of course, count on completely new aesthetics as well, some interesting novelties under the hood as well.

What does 2020 Acura MDX need to improve?
When you look at the current generation, there aren’t too many things to complain about. It is agile and features great handling, but also offers plenty of interior space and overall practicality. There are probably only two things that 2020 Acura MDX definitely needs to improve. The first one is interior quality. It’s not that the quality is bad, just need a little bit more style and better materials choice to be on par with other premium crossovers.
Secondly, most rivals feature smoother ride compared the current generation. Therefore, count on a new suspension setup, which will provide a finer ride and better overall comfort.
2020 Acura MDX Redesign
Of course, we count on lots of novelties for the upcoming 2020 Acura MDX Redesign. Changes in all aspects are expected. As we already mentioned, new suspension and complete chassis setup is something you should definitely count on. The 2020 Acura MDX will come with a new architecture which will, besides new mechanics, also come with the ability to accommodate electric powertrain. This means that an all-electric MDX should come relatively soon.
In terms of base design characteristics, the new model definitely won’t go far away from the current one. Despite being a premium crossover, the current model comes with superior practicality. We can expect the same from the new model as well. So, count on the same wagon-like overall shape, which will provide plenty of space on the inside and lots of cargo volume as well.
When it comes to the styling, we will have to wait for some 2020 Acura MDX spy shots to find out details. At this point, we can only presume that styling changes will feature evolutionary character. The current model has been updated a couple of years ago and it follows the brand’s latest language almost entirely. Therefore, we really don’t see any reason for some radical styling changes.
2020 Acura MDX Interior
The 2020 Acura MDX Interior is definitely the area in which we expect to see the biggest improvement. Compared to the current model, we count on a better materials choice, as well as on more style in overall. Simply, the current cabin, despite amazing practicality, doesn’t feature that premium flavor and can’t compete with biggest rivals in this aspect. Of course, we expect to see various new tech features in the offer as well. This especially refers to the aspect of safety and driver aids.

Still, the overall layout shouldn’t change too much. The 2020 Acura MDX interior should feature the same super-practical cabin, with plenty of legroom, spectacular seat quality and great cargo volume. Moreover, some reports suggest that the new model could get a few more inches in the wheelbase, so we can count that even the third row will be able to accommodate taller passengers.
2020 Acura MDX Engines
One of the biggest novelties for the 2020 Acura MDX could come under the hood. The current model comes with a familiar, super-reliable 3.5-liter V6 that delivers around 290 horsepower. This unit should carry on, though we could see a few tweaks on it, which would in practice mean even higher output. On the other side, many reports suggest a new 2.0-liter turbo inline-four in the offer as well. In its base variant, this engine delivers around 250 horsepower. However, a version with a bigger turbocharger and few more tweaks to the engine, so a max output goes over 300 horsepower.
Hybrid
A hybrid version of this crossover should carry on as well. The current model comes with a pretty advanced system that combined a gasoline engine with three electric motors, making a total output of 321 horsepower. Fuel economy is also at a high level. It goes around 27 mpg in a combined ride. This redesign should bring a couple of tweaks, which would in practice mean slightly more power and better fuel economy.

2020 Acura MDX Release Date and Price
The new 2020 Acura MDX is still waiting for the official confirmation. At this point, we can only presume that the new model will be ready to hit the market in the second half of next year. Don’t expect bigger changes in price, so base versions should be available at around 45.000 dollars.
